Chapter 4

Liss walked onto the beach the next morning and saw Nic and Howie asleep. She noticed the ring on Nic's finger. "Hey,Lovebirds, wake up" she said . Nic opened her eyes. "What?" she asked. "You two must've fallen asleep here last night" She said. "Howie, honey, wake up" Nic said softly, gently shaking him. He opened his eyes and looked at her lovingly. "Goodmorning, Angel" he said, kissing her. Liss made gagging noises. "I think I'm gonna like waking up to you every morning" Nic said, ignoring Liss. "Tell Liss" Howie said. "Liss, we're getting married!" Nic said, happily. "Congratulations!" Liss cried, hugging Nic. She showed Liss her ring. "Wow, That's some rock" Liss said. "It cost a fortune but it was worth it" Howie said, wrapping his arms around Nic from behind. "You two make me sick" Liss teased them, smiling. "So? You and Nick make me sick, too." Nic said. "well, Mom and Dad are on the warpath cause you weren't in the house with me when they called." Liss said. Nic groaned. "You better go home and call them, or I won't have a bride" Howie said un-wrapping his arms from Nic. Nic stood up and kissed him goodbye. "I'll call you later" she called, walking off the beach. She walked back to the house with Liss and called her parents. "Where were you last night?" her mom yelled. "With Howie" Nic said softly. "You spent the night with him?" Mom yelled. "Yes, Mom, and nothing happened. Well, except a marriage proposal" Nic said happily. "Congratulations! When's the big day?" Mom asked excitedly. "We plan to get married in about 6 months, when Howie's next tour ends." She replied. "That sounds perfect!" Mom said. "Will you come with me to get my dress in a few weeks?" Nic asked. "Of course, but won't you want Howie with you?" She asked. "Howie will be away in a month, so what we wanted to do is start planning it with each other before he leaves, then I'll work on it with you, Dad, and his parents while he's gone, and do last minute things together when he comes home." Nic said. "Wow, sounds like you have it all planned out" Mom said. "We were up half the night discussing it on the beach" Nic admitted. "I dont think I want to know what you did the other half." Mom said. "Nothing but sleep, I swear" Nic said. "How close to each other?" Mom asked nervously. "Well, in each others arms." Nic admitted quietly. "And nothing happened, you swear?" Mom asked. "Nothing happened, I swear" Nic echoed. Mom sighed in relief. "Mom, why dont you and Dad come to the house this afternoon so we can talk about wedding plans with Howie?" Nic asked. "Sure, is 1 good?" Mom asked. "Yep, I'll call Howie now. See ya later" Nic said hanging up. She dialed Howie's number. "Hey Baby" she said when he answered. "Hey, didn't I just see you?" Howie teased. "Yes, and you are going to see me again in 2 hours. My parents are coming to my house to talk about the wedding with us, so you better shower and do whatever else you have to do and be here by 1." Nic said. "Yes Madame" Howie teased. Nic laughed and sighed. "Honey, I'm sorry if I sound nasty or anything, but I'm just so nervous about planning this wedding in only 6 months." Nic said. "Baby, it'll be ok. Would I lie to you?" he asked. "No, but why do I feel like you are rushing into this because of your sister?" Nic asked "I'm wrong because I want to be happy again?" Howie asked, his voice full of anger and sadness. "No, I'm not saying that. Honey, I want you to be happy again more than anyone else, but rushing into marriage isn't the way to do it." Nic said. "Fine, you don't want the wedding? Then it's off" Howie said angrily, hanging up on her. Nic collapsed on the couch in tears.
