Chapter 5

Nick let himself into the house to see Liss and found Nic lying on the couch sobbing. He quietly sat beside her and hugged her. "Nikki, whats wrong?" he asked. "Howie called off the wedding." Nic said between sobs. "Wedding?" Nick asked, confused. "Howie proposed on the beach last night" Nic said. "Thats great" Nick said "Not really. I was just on the phone with him talking about it and I asked him if we were rushing into it because of his sister, and he got mad and called off the wedding" Nic said. "Oh boy" Nick said. "All I said was that if this was just a way to make him happy again then we're not getting married for the right reason." Nic said. "Let me talk to him" Nick said picking up the phone. "Ok, I'll be back in 15 min. I just have to take a shower." Nic said walking away. Nick dialed Howies number. "Nic?" Howie asked picking up the phone. "No, it's me" Nick said. "Are you at Nic's?" Howie asked. "Yes, and shes hysterical" Nick said. "I can be there in 15 minutes. I don't want to call off the wedding. I was just upset that she would think I'm only marrying her because of my sister." Howie said. "You better hurry up . She's in the shower now." Nick said. "OK. I'll be there as soon as I can" Howie said. Nick hung up and leaned back againt the couch cushions. Liss walked into the room and kissed Nick. Nick immeidiatly smiled and hugged her tightly. "Nic is in the shower crying and yelling, do you know whats wrong?" Liss asked. "Yeah. She had a fight with Howie and he called off the wedding. He's on his way over now to apologize." Nick said. "What did they fight about?" Liss asked. Nick told her what Nic told him as the doorbell rang. Liss opened it to see Howie standing there with 4 dozen peach roses and a teddybear that says "I Love You". "Come in" Liss said coldly. Nic walked into the living room towel drying her wet hair and stopped short when she saw Howie. "What are you doing here?" she asked. He handed her the roses and teddybear. "I'm so sorry, I overreacted. "He said. "It's ok" she said hugging and kissing him. "So the wedding is still on?" he asked. "Of course" Nic said. Howie smiled and picked her up. He kissed her softly on the mouth and let her down. Nick and Liss made gagging noises. Nic laughed and hugged Nick. "Thank You" she whispered. "No problem, Nikki. You know I'd do anything for you." he said. Nic smiled. "You know you are the only person that calls me Nikki." she said. "I know. I've called you that since we were kids." he said. Nic hugged and kissed him. Howie picked Nic up from behind and tossed her over his shoulder. The doorbell rang then, and Howie answered it, holding Nic upside down. Standing there were Nic's parents. "What are you doing to my daughter?" Dad asked. "Trying to kill me" Nic said, laughing. Howie turned her around and put her down. Nic leaned against him and sighed. "You two are sickening" Mom teased. "We know" They said in unison. Mom, Dad, Nick, and Liss laughed. "Let me see your ring" Mom said. Nic held her hand out and let the diamond catch the sunlight streaming through the window. "Howie, this must have cost you a fortune" Dad said, amazed. "It was worth it." Howie said, smiling at Nic. "Gee Nick, why can't you ever be that sweet?" Liss teased. Nick picked her up and kissed her softly. "Better?" he asked. "Yes" She whispered. "And you talk about us." Howie teased. "So, you two, lets talk about this wedding." Dad said. "Well today is September 21. I leave the 20th of October and come back February 15" Howie said. "How bout February 20th? It's Brian's birthday, which would be good, and it'll give us a few days after you come home to do the last minute things." Nic suggested. "Sounds good to me." Howie said. "So, you two are going to book a hall before you leave, right Howie?" Mom asked. "Yep, we're gonna start looking tomorrow." He replied. "And Nic, we're going for your dress in about a month?" Mom asked. "Yep, I want a plain white silk gown, with a veil that has little pearls on it." She said. "Sounds beautiful" Howie said. "Oh, no multi-colored tuxes please?" Nic asked. "We wouldn't do that" Nick said looking innocent. "Yeah right" Nic, Liss, Mom and Dad said. Nick and Howie laughed. Nic, Howie, Nick, Liss, Mom, and Dad, discussed wedding plans for 3 hours befor Melissa asked who the maid of honor would be. "You, naturally." Nic said. "Uh, Honey, I was meaning to talk to you about that. I already asked Pollyanna to be the maid of honor." Howie said.
