Chapter 8
"I understand that you two would like to say your own vows?" The
priest asked. "Yes" Howie said. "Would you go first please." the priest
asked Howie. "Nicole, I have loved you since I first saw you, cheering on
Varsity for Tampa High, when I went to see Nick play basketball. I knew then
that you were the one, and the feeling has only gotten stronger over these
last 3 years. I promise that I will love you, respect you,and be faithful to
you for the rest of our wonderful life together" Howie said softly, looking
directly into Nic's tearfilled eyes. He gently raised his thumbs to her face
and wiped away her tears. "Howie, I'm sorry, Howard, I've loved you since
the first time our eyes met. I felt something deep inside of me that has only
gotten stronger. I promise that I will love you, respect you, and be faithful
to you until the day I die." Nic whispered. "Howie, place the ring on her
finger and repeat after me." the priest said. Howie gently slipped a
delicate gold band with 'Nicole and Howie' engraved on it. "With this ring"
the priest said. "With this ring" Howie repeated. "I thee wed" the preist
finished. "I thee wed" Howie whispered. "Nicole, please do as Howie did." The
priest said. Nic gently slipped a gold band with 3 small diamond chips in it
onto Howie's finger. "With this ring" the preist said. "With this ring" Nic
repeated. "I thee wed" The priest said. "I thee wed." Nic whispered. "I now
pronounce you husband and wife." the priest said, "Howie, you may kiss your
bride." Howie very gently pulled Nic closer to him and kissed her lips.
Nic closed her eyes, and enjoyed their first kiss as husband and wife. Howie
softly pulled away. "Let's party!" he said, smiling. Nic laughed. "I know
of one way we can party" she whispered in his ear. "Later, we have company"
Howie whispered back, laughing. "Hey Nick, you brought your CD player,
right?" Nic asked. "Sure did, babe." Nick said. "Hey Carter, back off, she's
mine now" Howie teased. "Oh poo" Nick said, laughing. Nic put a CD in Nick's
CD player on pressed play. Nic and Howie's song, "God must've spent a little
more time on you" by N'sync came on. "Ok, sir, I want you up and dancing."
Nic said, gently pulling howie out of the bed. Howie wrapped his arms around
her waist and gently swayed to the music with her. Nic rested her head on
Howie's shoulder, and he leaned down and whispred the lyrics to the song in
her ear. "Dibs on the bride" Nick said when the song ended. "I get her after
Nick!" Brian called. "No, I do!" Aj called. Nic just laughed and slipped
into Nick's arms. "I feel really short now." She whispered. "You are." Nick
teased. Aj put 98º's song "Because of You" in the CD player. Nic looked up
into Nick's baby blue eyes and smiled. "Aj, how did you know this is our
song?" Nick asked. "I just knew." Aj said, smiling. "Wait, you two have a
song?' Howie asked. "We danced to this song at a party one night together,
and ever since then we've called this 'our song' " Nic explained. Nic rested
her head on nick's chest and closed her eyes. Howie's eyes went on fire as he
looked at then dancing so close. "Howie, they are just friends" Aj whispered.
"I know, but he is so in love with her. It's obvious." Howie whispered back.
"He might be in love with her, but its obvious she isn't in love with him."
Aj whispered back. Nic opened her eyes and smiled as she looked into Nick's
baby blue eyes. "I love you so much, Missy." Nick whispered. "I love you
too, Nicky." Nic whispered back. "I better get back to my husband" Nic
whispered, looking away from those beautiful blue eyes she was falling into.
Nick leaned down and kissed her nose. Nic quickly walked away from Nick and
sat down on Howie's lap. Howie wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed
her neck. "I don't have feelings for Nick, I don't" Nic thought. "Hey, Mrs.
Dorough, how bout a dance?" Kev asked. "Sure, Mr. Richardson." Nic said,
jumping from Howie's lap. Kev pulled Nic into his arms and put "Let the Music
Heal Your Soul" on. Nic smiled. 'I love this song" she said. 'I know" Kev
said. "Kev, can I tell you something without you telling Howie?" Nic
whispered. "Sure" Kev whispered back. "I think I'm starting to like Nick.'
Nic whispered. "It's obvious." Kev whispered. "Nick and I have always been
like this, but lately it's been a little different.' Nic whispered. "I know.
He loves you, he did tell me that, but Nic, you love Howie." Kev whispered.
"I know. Howie is my everything, but Nick is my best friend. I don't know.
If I stay with Howie I lose Nick, but if I go with Nick I lose Howie. " Nic
whispered. "Nic, you are going to have to decide who is more important to
you." Kev whispered. "I love Howie so much, but Nick is the one that has
always been there for me." Nic whispered. "I think you need to talk to them
both." Kev whispered. "Nick, Howie, can I talk to you alone?" Nic asked when
the song ended. The others left, leaving Nick, Nic, and Howie alone. Nic sat
in Howie's lap, and leaned against him. "Ok, you two. I know you can both see
that I have been starting to have feelings for Nick." Nic began. Howie's
eyes flashed with pain. "And I know that the time has come for me to make a
decision. Nick, I love you. You are my best friend." Nic said. Howie's
bottom lip quivered. "And Howie, you know you mean more than anything to me.
And as much as I love and care for Nick, I love you so much more. And more
than that, I'm in love with you, something I never was or will be with Nick"
Nic said. Howie's face broke into a huge smile and he hugged her tightly
against his chest. Nic smiled. "I love you Mr. Dorough." She whispered. "I
love you too, Mrs. Dorough." he whispered back. Nick quietly left the
newlyweds alone to enjoy their first night together.
