Star Ocean

Here are some pictures and now FILES from the game Star Ocean for the Super Famicom. The game was never released in the US, so there isn't much about it on the web. If you are lucky enough to get a copy, there is an excellent translation/walkthrough FAQ on GameFAQs, and also my own little guide! If you have played part 2 for the PS, then you know how this one plays. It's very similar. I started to draw pictures for some characters since I couldn't find any on the web. The pictures are replicas of their profiles, so if you have the game you'll see that they are pretty close.

RATIX

Ratix is the hero of the game. You always control him in battles by default, and if you switch in battle, he will not move; he 'gives orders' to whomever else you decide to use. Luckily, there's no reason why you'd want to switch. He's probably the best fighter in the game. He can equip strong armor, he attacks at a fast rate, and he has some really useful killer moves. He gets involved accidentaly with the Earth Federation and ends up going on a journey to save Roak with Ronixis, Iria, and Milly.

MILLY

Milly is from the same village as Ratix and is with him when he meets up with the Earth Federation. She is a healer like Rena from SO2, although Rena is a much better attacker than Milly. You don't get to use Milly for awhile because she gets separated along with Ronixis. A good six hours of the game is spent without a healer as a result.

DORN

Dorn is only with you for a short time at the start of the game. He is a companion of Ratix and Milly, but he gets infected with the disease that is spreading around Roak. Not even the Earth Federation can cure him, and he turns to stone like everyone else afflicted.

RONIXIS

Here's Ronixis, the same character as in Star Ocean the Second Story. He's a spell user who also packs a punch with his bow and arrow. He has the only long range normal attack of anyone in the Star Ocean series. I think his arrows are limited to a certain amount each battle.

IRIA

Iria is Ronixis' companion who travels with him back in time to help the people of Roak. She's a martial artist like Chisato from SO2.

CIUS

Cius is the first character you meet who you have the option of not taking along. He's a very strong fighter, although he's a bit slow and his MP drains fast.

JOSHUA

Yoshua is one of the ancient winged people. He is after the fighter who supposedly murdered his sister, and seriously injured himself. He's like a cross betwen Leon and Noel from SO2 in terms of his abilities. He has both healing and attack spells. I read that he also learns extinction eventually, which is why I compare him to Leon as well. A good support character as a substitute for Ronixis.

TINEK

Tinek is a special character found later in the game. He is a lycanthrope, and battles as a menacing werewolf. He uses a long stick to deal out some serious damage. He sleeps all day as a small dorky kid, but in battle he is one of the best characters I've seen.
