Studio Notes & Comments: Having just recorded a jazz/funk/rock fusion number, we felt the only possible thing to do was to follow it up with a good old rock ballad! Jimmy had the basic chords, melody and lyrics already written and after jamming around with it for a while, I had a couple of weeks to come up with a bass line and lead guitar parts (sheer luxury!). The verses are very simple, with just acoustic guitar and vocals, accompanied by the rhythm track. A touch of electric guitar power chords and a following lead line add a bit of "oomph" to the chorus, but the overall effect is still very simple. A guitar solo then builds up to a crescendo that slides in to a short, sharp heavy section at the end, that has just a hint of Black Sabbath's "Dirty Women" about it. While recording the vocals for ths song, we made the amazing discovery that Jimmy can do a reasonable impression of Rod Stewart!!
The vocals were re-recorded in November '99 using our new Audio-Technica MB4000C condenser microphone. Unfortunately, in an attempt to beef-up the end section, we made a "live" recording of vocals and rhythm guitar onto one track....and discovered afterwards that the guitar tuning was out!!
On January 27th/28th 2000, we re-recorded this song in the 8-track studio at SAE Studios, Solna Sweden; engineered and mixed by Asbjörn Jensen. The availability of 8 recording tracks and the studio's top-notch microphones and sound processing equipment enabled us to make a vastly improved version of this song!
