Small Italy's turn, at last!
Did you know it? He's the best. Though my best friend (another Sting maniac) didn't appreciate the concert as much as his previous ones, I say: what a great concert!
I won't try to recollect the setlist: almost the same as ever. I'm only sorry he didn't do Big Lie Small World and Ghost Story. I LOVED the new rock version of We'll Be Together. Moon Over Bourbon Street was just breathtaking: he's never sung a song in that Armstrong-Waits-ish voice before, a great novelty.
Other standouts: After the Rain has Fallen, Seven Days, Fill Her Up (I preferred this version to the one on the album), Perfect Love... Gone Wrong. But what about that endless note he held at the end of Tomorrow We'll See (...I'll just have to take my chanceeeeeeeeeeeees)?Find me another man close to his 50s who can do that.
Though it's true that you can't see a Sting concert without hearing EBYT, I agree with those who think he should renew his Police live numbers a bit. Roxanne wasn't as brilliant as it used to be.
What about the new musicians? Jason Robello was great, though it's not easy to take the place that used to be of such monsters as Kenny and David Sancious. Anyway, he did a great job. Kipper's contribution didn't stand out, but he did a good job on percussions. Chris is great, as those of you who heard Paul Simon's Concert in the Park can tell. Nothing special to say about the two vocalists.
The music's volume wasn't very loud, but I think it only helped to appreciate the arrangements.
I won't bore you by explaining why, but the Compaq organization managed to be a total disaster even here.
As to merchandise, official T-Shirts cost 3/2 of the concert, so I didn't even give it a thought and turned to the unofficial ones.
This was the 6th times I saw Sting live, but it was the first one as a list member. I must say it felt different, and I can't thank enough all of you for "preparing" me to the event with all your news.
I know what I wrote doesn't even look like a review, but I just wanted to let you know my first impressions. I'm looking forward to seeing what the other Italian members will write.
We are just back from Sting concert in Milan (terrific ! the Illegal Italian Bees managed to reach the first row this time as well - and most of all, Mr Sting picked up our black and yellow scarf our friend Marco threw on the stage, and put it round his neck while leaving the stage after Fragile ....) Anyway, Giovanni, Guido or other Italian friends will surely make you a good report, so ... let's go straight to the reason of this e-mail :
Is there anybody who is willing to swap? We have a brand New Day Tour book and are looking for a Ten Summoner's Tales Tour Book . If anybody is interested, please e-mail us privately.
Thanks and for those of you who will go to Toulon, see you there on Saturday night for another first raw at Sting's feet!!
Probably you have already read some of the mail from a lot of Italian fans, so here is mine!
Abolutely superb! His voice is even better than in the past! No other words could explain the feeling I had at the concert!
I had no chance this time to meet this great artist! Sometimes you have to choose between living the concert in the front row or give up and trying to be backstage! I personally need the front row I'll have some more chances to meet him, maybe in a couple of years, but the only thing I wanted yesterday night was to be there, jumping, shouting, singing! This is what our 'hero' deserves!
During 'Message In A Bottle' his face was surprised as he listened to the whole Forum singing the song in a tremendous loudy volume! We 'ourselves' were all shocked by the situation!
Hi everybody, ciao Giovanni and all the others fans of the night.
I agree with Giovanni,it was really incredible to see a so-energic show from an almost 50-years old man,who began to dance and putting energy since he took his jacket off from the second song! His feeling with the band was fantastic, to me best performers were Chris Botti and Dominic:I was really amazed by his arramngements and his guitar parts, not necessarily as solo player.Someone was saying he should have been in non perfect phisical conditions...?What should we expect more from him?
Despite the fact he talked less in italian with the crowd than times before, anyway he played and gave to the audience an incredible performance, playing with his voice like the golden times. He also was competing against Botti,to demonstrate his breathe was longer than him...and he really won (on "Tomorrow we'll see").
Here is the set:

And here there are some links to some reviews of the concert: "La Repubblica" and "Il Giorno".
Sorry,they are in Italian!
