Review of Pensacola show:
Convention center here is small, only seats 5000, so you get a LOUD concert no matter who is playing, and this kind of detracted from the type of music Stinger plays. But you do get a more intimate show.....which means if you are in the back, you still have a great view of the stage.
He started off with a ballad, which did not seem to be a good idea, it was too mellow and the crowd (including me) had been sitting and waiting and wanted to get things rockin. But from there, HE WENT OFF!! The only complaints I have after that is 1) NOT ENOUGH POLICE SONGS, and 2) the keyboard solos sounded note for note like Kenny Kirkland's from the 1985 DOTBT tour (so much so I thought they were playing a tape!!)
The last half of the show was just awesome.....I would say it was more rock than jazz..
I woke up the next morning humming "Fill Her Up" and had to dig out my Sting Live CD from the Blue Turtles tour so I could hear some more of his live stuff.
Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10. This was the third time I had seen him (1985, 1994, 2001) and all three times were just awesome shows. If you get a chance, go see him.
