I was at the Sting performance of yesterday (sunday 13th) evening in Geneva...What a night !!! Obviously, the master is still alive and very refreshing... I enjoyed the new versions of the olders songs. Particulary the "unplugged version" of "Message in a Bottle"...The tracklisting seems to be the same as the Cologne concert (thanks Guido). It was a great experience. Thanks Mr STING for this awful time...a swiss fan.
The Concert start at 20h30 PRECISE (early seconds of the minutes, even in Switzerland, we don't have often this ponctuality...) with "A Thousand Years". The live version was played little roughtly than the record...I was very impressed, because that quiet track looked like a killer on... Sting's voice was there, obviously, and he looked very happy to be there, singing some extra-words between the originally writed (He !... I said...). He was wearing a black nylon training and a no-arm shirt, also black. During the show, he spoke a good french. The older songs were reorchestred fine, it was a really rediscovering for If you love somebody...,We'll Be Together, All this Time, Mad about You, Seven Days, Fields of gold (with many fan's lighter's on...very nice),"Moon over bourbon street", with the three lamps hang pver the stage, including one with the moon's light, was perfect...sting's voice was very (and correctly) low during this song (like Louis Armstrong, you know), proved that his voice was coming back...Englishman In New York, with the reworked orchestration of the verses, was a delirious moment ! He also played some Police's stuff, like Every little thing...and Roxanne ! Another crazy moment in this night... About the new songs, he played, after Thousand Years, After the Rain has Fallen, Perfect Love..gone Wrong (with drummer Manu Katché funny rap section...very unusual...), Fill her Up (with an smart arrangement, to fill the gospel's choir original place in the song...a very dancing piece), Brand New Day, and Desert Rose (also with another smart singing and music, to fill here Cheb Mami and the orchester's place).
He finished with an enormous Bring On The Night, very instrumental, and finally came back for four encores : If I Ever Lose my Faith in You (with a public singing very loud), Every Breath You Take (my girlfriend loved it particularely...very romantic), an acoustic version of Message In A Bottle (with the guitar's string noises...but very intimate...) and finally Fragile, definitely a great piece of music. About Sting, during all the show, he was impressive. He drinked a lot of "white water" (medicaments ?), maybe to be sure his voice will be there until the end. His music has been presented many time, so they played it very fine, in a very versatile way. Manu Katché was terrible (it seems he breaked many sticks that nights, and the rap performance was a fun idea), Dominic Miller was still trying a lot of tricks...The trumpetist was not everytime "there", sparing a lot of notes, but giving an amazing performance too, and the jazz-piano soloist seems not good tuned at the beginning of the show (or made a lot of mistakes), but he gives a fantastic performance at the end (for Bring On The Night essentially). The artistes were there...the public was also there...So we all brought on the night to a very special one... I was very happy to live this unique experience. Next time Sting will come back in Switzerland, I will certainely be there...
