I just came back from the venue Ahoy in Rotterdam. Early this year I went to France (Lille) to see Sting doing his first gig in Europe. I went home with pain in my stumoch....I thought it was all over. The recent bass-faking rumour made it even worse...
I had my doubts about Sting the Man!
Tonight I saw one of the best shows of all 21 I have seen since The Soul Cages tour! First of all let me tell you one thing! Sting is NOT faking his bassplaying....Ok, some extra sounds are produced by Kipper, but the bass is absolutely Sting. The highlight of the concert was Roxanne which included some fantastic basslines of Masoko Tanga from The Police their first album Outlandos D'amour. I was blown away by the energy!! The intro of the song has changed completely as well. Faith's intro was nearly accoustic. Set Them Free was more inspiring I have ever heard. I sang my haert out and lost my voice several times. I couldn't stop dancing.....
I Am So Happy I Can't Stop Crying was played. Great song! The Lille gig had only one good song Moon Over Bourbon Street which was now played in not a good mood!
Tomorrow I will be back at the venue for the second night, but first we will have a fanclub meeting some where in a pub in Rotterdam. I will tell you more later!!! It will be a big surprise I can tell you!!
Hi Folks, for those interested, short info about the Rotterdam gig yesterday. Those who have a ticket for today: look forward! House was packed, people were in great mood, esp. up front!! Quite a number of them with obvious practise from the soccer stadium, Sting seemed to like it.
Great show, except Big lie small world.
- Fill her up: THIS has much more energy and reggae driven sound than on the album!
- Roxaaaanaa! Nice accoustic start and powerful takeover by Manu!
- After the Rain: also better than on BND, can't wait for the remix...
Chris Botti left the stage during the show several times - does he have a bladder problem or did he try dutch food??? Or belgian food the day before, haha...
After the show I got a little encounter with our buddy: His security S-Benz was right in front of the back stage door, and I managed to stand at the gear left door. The driver at the drivers door, Miles standing with his grimy face up front right, and, Sting approaching the gear right one, with a huge blue sweater and cap covering him. I said a few words accross the car's roof, and I got my first personal smile from him with "Thanks, bye". I almost moved my hand towards the door handle, but Miles face made me think twice, so, unfortunately, only three of us left for the airport, haha... But did that man look tired and worn out, I would not have recorgnized him on the street! In another car the 2 back vocals left ( what a slimy guy!), Jason and Manu in a third. Dominic stayed inside!?
For those who wonder about the faking bass: In the beginning of TWS, during the bass part, Sting took his right hand off the bass to pick something up a fan had thrown on stage, but the bass kept on playing and changing notes...
I've just come home from the concert in Rotterdam and I just want to let you all know it was fantastic. I've been to so many of his concerts before but this was the best one ever. Heard the soundcheck as well, very surprised to hear I'm so happy can't stop crying (indeed) followed by Fill her up. He also did this during the concert and left All this time out. Did he do this on any of his other concerts?
Other highlights the very special MOBS (read many descriptions on the internet but none one describes the real thing), WTWIFD, and boy should he get a kick out of 6000 people (or so) sing MIAB. Well if he didn't, I did! I'm not entirely new to the group but only recently learned how this works thanks to my son.
