2nd encore
He said "Koszonom!" (Thank you!) a lot of times durning the concert and he greeted the Hungarian audience as "Szevasztok budapestiek!" (Hi there, Budapesters!). It was really fun and he also enjoyed it very much!!! I'm going to write a detailed review this week which you can read here or at my SYNCHRONIsite as well. I also managed to record the whole gig and it's quality is surprisingly better than I made in Bratislava...
And now, here is the short story of my meeting with Sting on the day before the concert:
I had a sleepless night and I was really excited on 11 June.
At 10.00 I met two other Hungarian Fan Club members in front of Hotel Corvinus Kempinski in Budapest. It was the most likely place for Sting because it is the most beautiful and most expensive hotel in the country. I knew the name of Sting's tour manager, so I went to the reception desk and asked them about him. I got to know that he would arrive between 14.30 and 15.00, so I went home and I phoned other friends to come to the hotel at 14.00. It was unbelievably hot (35 degree Celsius) and we were informed at the reception and by some policemen in the street that Sting would be arriving after 14.30. Me and 10 people were sitting under the trees in the shades in front of the hotel and first we were nervous and excited but after two and a half hours of waiting we became really really tired...
Then around 16.30 two black cars arrived and form the first Mercedes Dominic Miller and Billy Francis got out. I saw Dom's long hair in the wind and I shouted to the others "There's Dominic!" and I rushed to the hotel's side across the road within a second with the Fanbook, the Brand New Day CD and a CD marker pen in my hand. I could hardly recognized Sting when he got up a bit slowly (he was very tired) and he went round the car and he had a very blond and really shock-headed. As he was approaching the hotel entrance I walked next to him and said "Sting!" twice but he did not notice me only when I was really close to him and said "Hi Sting! Welcome to Hungary!". He looked at me and replied "Hi!". It was the very last second when I could stopped him because he almost grabbed the handle of the hotel entrance door. "My name is Greg." I continued and he put down something from his hand and shook my hand. "We would like to give present for you, a Fanbook which contains more than 300 messages from the Internet!" and I gave the book to his hands. He looked at its blue cover and said very politely "Ah, it's great! Thank you!". He held it for a while and I think later he gave it to Billy Francis as he was walked into the building. I said "Would you please sign this for me?" and I gave him a black pen and my BND CD. "Yes, sure!" he signed his name on the blue coloured inner booklet but I originally wanted him to sign my disk, so I added "Would you please sign it here as well?", "Sure!" and he did it immediately then I thanked him.
Meanwhile the other members of our fan club came there and they also asked him to sign their different posters, photos, CDs and books as well. When he saw a cool picture in a yoga-postion of himself from a hungarian magazine he asked "What's this?" and smiled. A lot of photos and even a short video were taken by us during this unbelievable meeting. After everyone got what they wanted, Sting took out my pen from his mouth (his print of teeth is still visible on it!) and gave it back to me. Then he said goodbye and he went into the hotel.
Just some minutes later an airport bus arrived to the main entrance and we saw Kipper in it. I shouted "Hi Kipper!" and he smiled. He was dressed in red clothes but one of his legs were still in plaster and he got two crutches as well. Manu got out from the same vehicle and I asked him to sign my Desert Rose single and after that he gave autographs for the others. He didn't say a word though. We let Kipper go with his cruthes because we didn't want to stop and bother him. Another bus came and Chris Botti came to us in sunglasses, I could hardly recognized him too.
I asked him to sign my Slowing Down The World CD booklet and he asked my name, so he dedicated it "for Greg". He signed his name and also drawn a little nice trupet as well. Balazs asked him that "Do you remember us? We waved you in Bratislava and you waved back to us!". He said "Yes, it was really great in Bratislava!" and then we all laughed. I also asked him "Where were you? We have been waiting for you nearly for 3 hours..." He said that they came from the airport and they were late. "Where were we today?" he asked to himself. I said "You were in Germany." "Oh, yeah! We were in Frankfurt." It was really funny! He wanted to give back the red pen that he was writing with and he asked "Whose pen is this? Is it Greg's?" so he gave it back to me and he knew my name. He was very very kind and friendly to us.
"See you tommorow!" we said to him. Unfortuantely we didn't meet Jason Rebello but that afternoon will be always remembered!!!
Many thanks for the tips to: Pat of Hawaii, Juan of Spain, Giovanni of Italy and Linda of USA.
More details, pictures and concert reviews will be coming soon and the Fanbook is available on-line from now, so check it out at: http://www.synchronisite.com.
I'm back again! I don't know if someone mentioned it earlier but there are some new T-shirts with the BND cover picture in the front and the BND "legs picture" in the back with the European tour dates from March to June.
During the soundcheck Manu played for some seconds, then Jason and after that Sting and the whole band performed an absolutely unknown song (to us) four or five times. It was really a nice and "Stingy" song with piano, guitar, drums, synths and lyrics as well. Unfortunately we have never heard this tune befor but we really liked its athmosphere. So let's check it out when Sting is in your country and he's doing a soundcheck!!! I can only remeber that it was a very moody and a little bit slow song and it was good for Sting to train his voice because of the low and the high notes were always changing.
