Greek Theater - Los Angeles, California, United States

by Sue on August 11, 2000

The next day we were in shock! It was a great night and we still couldn't believe what happened...

The next day was the Greek Theater show... we managed to upgrade our seats.. THANK GOD! We got there early... we had to try and sell the two extra tickets we had. While we were sitting on the bench near the doors to go in these stage crew guys kept looking out the loading dock at us.. finally they waved and we walked over.

"You're the belly dancers, right", they said?

We couldn't believe that they remembered us! So we talked to them for a minute and then we were talking to some other guy that was standing by us... another stage person... anyway he remembered us from Sunday night and said what a big hit we were with Sting and the band.. very cool! He remembered Angie's sign from Salt Lake also! We talked to them for a bit and that was that.

In the mean time Ang and I had written thank you notes to Sting, Chris and the band and we wanted to get them to them... One of the stage guys was kind enough to deliver them to Chris and left them on the stage by his trumpet.. we told Chris later on about the notes...

When the doors finally opened we went over by the box office to see about unloading the extra tix... the one guy that we talked to earlier was standing there with some other stage people... he said, "here come the singers!" I corrected him and he said, "oh, right dancers, sorry." or something to that effect. Then he said to one of them, "have you met the dancers? did you see them the other night?" He said no but wish that he had...His name was Robin... when they were walking away Robin said that he wished he had seen us dance and that's when the other one said, "don't worry, they'll do it again!" we had to ask him again what he said.. we couldn't believe it... would we dance again???

Keep in mind.. Ang and I dressed up very nice for the show that night.. we headed inside and Ang was behind me at the doors. I walked in and one of Sting's manager guys was standing there. I knew because I had seen him on the Direct Tv concert behind the scenes thingy.. anyway, he kept looking at me and talking to his friend.. then Ang walked up and he said to us.. "The belly dancers, right?" YEAH! He proceeded to tell us how much Sting loved us the other night and everyone was talking about it! Tooooo coool!

We found Terence, Sting's PR guy.. Ang asked if he would take the sign up and have Sting autograph it. He said sure when he found out it was us! He went off with our sign and we waited! While we were waiting.. I happened to be drawn to turn around... and this always seems to happen this way too.. there was Chris! I must have Chris sensors or something.. anyway, he came over and we talked about Sunday night. We asked if he had anything to do with us getting on stage.. nope! cool! He went off to find some friends and we hung out. Terence reappeared with the poster... he had a big smile on his face and he said, "Sting wanted me to tell you that he loved you guys the other night and if you want to dance again on stage to hold up the sign!"

Terence was going nuts! Ang and I just looked at each other in shock! We read the sign.. Sting had written.. "Dear Angie and Sue, I loved your performance immensley the other night! If you want to do it again hold up the sign! Sting"... We were blown away! And now we were excited and nervous!

We went to our seats and actually we moved up a few rows in the center section.. we had really good seats so now they were even better...The show started and whent he lights came up enough we held up the sign. He aknowledged us by winking.. then we held it up again a few songs later...We had made another one thanking Sting for letting us dance.. he read Angie's again... "hey Sting, I want to belly dance for you! I'll get back to you on that one!" We were really excited now!

We were trying to remember what song DR was after.. finally I figured it out wben Roxanne was on.. it was after that. I told Ang to get ready.. Then Sting said, "ok, where are those signs. let me see them again... yeah, yeah, I like that, get them up here. Let them through." it was really cool. I got to the stage first.. Ang was getting her boots off. I reached up to Sting's out stretched hand and he pulled me up. I stood eye to eye with him now! I was dying! We said hello, again and he asked my name, even though he knew it, but he didn't know if I was Angie or Sue... I told him. Then Ang came up.. he introduced us.. "Let hear it for Angie and Sue!" The crowd went nuts.. this time I could see more people, now I was nervous!

Same positions as Sunday night... I turned around with my back to the crowd.. so did Ang. I was looking right at Chris and we were laughing again. He gave me a huge smile! We began to dance. It was different this time with no wine.. a little more scary! We had fun though. It was sooo cool. I went close to Sting at one point and he turned to me and gave me this cute grin.. like "oh baby!" it was awesome. Then he went and straddled Ang again.. tell them what he said to you Ang!!!!!!

Ang ran up by Chris again and I followed... she moved over to the other platform and I danced close to Chris. We started talking. He pointed to the floor.. I looked down and saw our thank you notes there. COOL!!! He got them... I told him thanks! He said something else, can't remember what and then he said this to me.. "YOU are very sexy!" Oh my! I said thanks! and went down by Sting. We got more hugs and kisses from Sting and left the stage. We were on cloud nine.. or I should say 99 at this point!

After the show we were hanging out and Chris came out... he came up to us and was in front of me... "That was good! You guys were great!" and he grabbed me and gave me a hug and kiss... I was dying! Ang said he likes me... hahahaha... He is so hot! We got a picture of the three of us together and when Ang and I wrapped our arms around him and he wrapped his around us he said, "Oh WOW!" hahaha.. it was great.. he was loving it!

That was that.. we are still in shock and I am loving it! Last night on Leno - he had to have gotten the idea from us... it was just tooooo strange.. We're going to Hershey so who knows! I let Chris know this also... Central Park as well!

Well, for those of you that are still interested I finally have time to sit down and write this. I can't believe the LA Adventure was almost three weeks ago already... wow... and now, we have Virginia Beach, Hershey Park and with any luck Central Park to look forward to next month!

As usual it's a little long-winded--just an advance warning!

8/8/00, Greek Theatre, Los Angeles

I think the venue and set list have been covered already so I'll skip that part. I will say, the Greek is beautiful and the weather was perfect. The only blah part was the crowd-- I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it was almost like they thought they were too cool to have fun at a concert. Their loss. OK, backing up...

Sue and I got there at about 4:00 in the afternoon, the infamous poster in tow. We felt rather groupie-ish, but we decided we didn't care since nobody knew who we were anyway. HA! Were we wrong!

We took posterboard and markers and were sitting outside making a new sign that said "Hey Sting, thanks for the belly-dance in SB". This guy kept walking past, staring at the sign so we quickly told him the story from Santa Barbara. He said, "Oh I know, I was there. I saw you." He was a roadie. That was the beginning of the deja-vu-weirdness feeling. We could also hear the sound check at this point so we were enjoying the little sneak preview.

As the afternoon went on, roadies, stage crew, etc. kept poking their heads out and looking at us. At first we thought it was because we were sitting there at 4:00 in the afternoon all dressed up for the show. But then, one of the guys waved at us, and we were like, "Do they recognize us?" I went over and said, "Did you just wave at us?" he said, "Possibly," I told him he should go back and tell Sting the dancers were here. He said, "I wasn't aware we had dancers tonight," and I said "You do now!" I asked him if there was any way I could get my poster to Sting for him to autograph and he told me to ask a different guy. So I asked the other guy, and he said he didn't know. I went and sat back down and Sue went over to talk to the 2nd guy. He asked her if we'd been at the Salt Lake show and she told him I had been. He said, "Yeah, we all saw her sign there too." HA! HA! I was embarrassed. I wasn't sure whether to feel flattered that they remembered me or stupid for being such a geek!! We sat back down to wait some more.

On a side note, it was really fun to get there that early and watch all the preliminaries: assorted "important" people milling about, deliveries for Sting, reporters, etc.

When they finally opened the doors, we thought we should hang out a little bit as we had two extra tickets and wanted to see if anyone might want them. We gave up on the idea pretty quickly though. Anyway, while we were standing out there, we ran into our friend that said he saw my sign in SLC. He had yet another guy with him, and he introduced us as the singers. "No, the dancers!" Sue said. The new guy said, "Oh, I can't believe I missed you guys dancing the other night, it's all I've been hearing about for the past two days!" The first guy said, "Don't worry, you'll get a chance to see it again." and walked away. I said, "Sue-did you hear what he just said?" She said no, so I told her. That was our first clue that something was happening. Then we decided we'd better go in.

As we were walking in, the doorman stopped me and wanted to search my purse. I had the camera in there, buried, luckily he was put off by all the girl stuff I had piled on top of it and I didn't get busted. Sue got in before me and had to wait a minute while the purse-search was going on. As soon as I joined her, immediately this man comes up to us and said, "The dancers, right?" We said yes, and chatted for a few minutes. He said, "Sting LOVED you two the other night. He was so into it!" I was trying to be all cool but I felt like a little kid trying not to laugh in church. WOW! Sting loved us? He was totally into it? This was just too surreal. Finally we got away from the guy and could look at each other and go "oh... my ... GOD!"

We went in to find our seats. They were pretty good, but later we did end up sneaking forward a few rows to seats on the aisle. After that we went back out to get a bite to eat and a drink. Sting's PR people were hanging out, and I thought, what the heck, I'll ask them if they'll take my poster to Sting and have him autograph it. So we went over to them, Terence and Alison--they were very nice. I told them the story of Santa B and asked them about getting the poster signed. Terence said, "Sure, I'll try," and off he went with my poster. Well, I wasn't going anywhere without that poster so I got a glass of wine and sat down to wait for him to come back. Sue got some food which we couldn't eat, so we were just hanging out.

In the meantime, Chris Botti came out and came right over to us! We talked for awhile again, he was just as sweet but seemed a little distracted. We also had written thank you notes at our hotel, which we'd given to a roadie earlier. We found out later that he'd put them on Chris' monitor, so he got our notes! Yay!

Pretty soon here comes Terence with my poster. He brought it over and said "Read it." I open it up, and Sue and I were DYING. On the poster it read: "Dear Angie and Sue, I enjoyed your performance immensely on Sunday. If you want to do it again, hold up the sign! Sting." AAUUGGHH!! He remembered us and wanted us to dance again! Terence was so cute, he said "Sting is so excited you're here. He didn't know you were going to be here tonight and wants you to dance. He wanted me to ask you, but then he said, "No, I'll just write them a note,' So we're going to get you onstage again, is that OK?" well, DUH!!! Of course it was OK!

So then we were ecstatic, but also feeling a little disjointed. I felt like I was watching a movie with someone else playing me. We wandered around, made a few phone calls, wandered some more, missed the opening act and then realized we'd better get to our seats!

So-- Sting came out. Ok--that seems a little anti-climactic. Let me try again.

Our man took the stage, wielding his bass and looking amazing as usual! (better?) We could see him scanning the audience so we held up the sign. He saw it and broke out in a big grin. SCORE!! We were in a haze thru the show, trying to remember which song was before Desert Rose, and Sue remembered it was Roxanne. So we were preparing and a little more nervous this time! He read the sign out loud again and said he'd get back to us, just like in SB.

So... as DR began... Sting says, "OK, hold up that sign again... let's get those bellydancers up here, I'm into that..." We were running to the stage, and Sting was saying "Let them through, let them through!" Sue got up there first, I was trying to get my boots off so I could dance. I got to the stage and sort-of bounced onto the edge of it, swung my feet around and there was Sting, hand outstretched to pull me up. He had a big grin on his face. I gave him a big hug, and--- here's the good part-- buried my face in his neck to see what he smelled like. He most definitely DOES NOT have B.O.! At least he didn't that night! So, he introduced us and the song began! It was sooooo much fun. Sue and I had tried to choreograph a little bit beforehand but, it was hopeless. We just let go and danced! WOW!!!!! Even more fun this time. Kipper was grinning, I think I pretty much ignored Dom (not intentionally!) and I watched Sting a lot this time. He sings very passionately, plays his voice like an instrument. You can see that he's completely in his element when he sings.

I did the backbend, thinking he'd maybe stand over me again, but not really expecting it.. but sure enough, I look up and there he is, standing above me, shaking his head and mouthing "Wow." I wowed Sting! Wow again! Then he almost missed his cue to sing, he sort of jumped over me back to the mike. It was cute. Then I went up to Chris' platform. Sue followed. Chris showed Sue our notes, he had them right there with him. Chris liked Sue a lot!!! I went down by Jason. His keyboards are amazing! I wanted to sit down and play, but obviously then wasn't the time. All too soon the song came to an end. We went back to Sting, hugged him again and he said a couple of times, "Let's hear it for Sue and Angie!" We ran back to our seats, happy and jumping around.

After, we tried to go backstage but Terence and Alison said it was too crowded, Sting had left with the kids, etc. so that didn't happen. But, before that we did have our picture taken by Sting's son Jake (go to www.stingus.com, it's the one of me and Sue with the sign) and Chris came back out with hugs and told us that we were great. Trudie was there, she walked right past us with Coco and said hi to Sue. Trudie is gorgeous, amazingly so.

And that's about it! Whew, that was long. I've listened to BND twice while writing this! All in all it was the most amazing vacation I've ever had in my life. Los Angeles is truly La-La Land.

I cannot wait until my trip in September! I can't wait to hear my song live again and be swept up in the magic that is Sting.

Take care everyone, thanks for reading.
