Oak Mountain Amphitheater - Pelham, (Birmingham), Alabama, United States

by Jeremy on September 1, 2000

Went to the show in Birmingham Alabama on Tuesday night, sorry for the delay in writing a review, but it gets really hard to come up with the usual nonsense that I write to this list. Before the show, Deb and I went backstage for a while, watched sting do his Yoga for a while, and then after apologising to Chris for offending his horn, Chris said the only thing that is offensive is how bad Dominic is beating him at Chess.

The show was the usual affair in all ways, Deb abd I found ourselves in the 2nd row for the 3rd time in 4 nights, and the setlist was the same, and it was so hot, that we were all soaking in puddles of sweat. Was a slightly older crowd tonight, but for the most part people were standing and dancing along with the juniors. The show was probably as wonderful as the last three except that 4 times in 5 days gets to be a little much and boredon creeps in. Maggie, I gave Billy your bottle of wine as promised, he read the card in front of us, smirked and said...., well actually he didnt say anything.. other than, how the hell did we get back there.. oops (thanks compaq).

Setlist was:

  1. 1000 Years * Nice as ever, crows went bananas at one point, you could hear this roar come through the crowd, but it tuened out some woman had her breasts out in the row behind us.
  2. Set them Free
  3. After the rain has fallen *One again I thought that Sting was getting a little hoarse through this song, but seemed to work out fine.
  4. We'll be together
  5. Perfect Love * I love this song !!! yea right.... well it is ok at the end, Chris was great tonight in it.
  6. All this Time * Sting seems to like messing the lyrics up in this one, always at the same point...
  7. Seven Days *
  8. Fill her up * Even longer more excellent solo by Jonny Lang again, really makes the middle section fly... wish I had taped it
  9. Fields of gold
  10. ELTSDIM
  11. Moon over Bourbon street
  12. Englishman in NY * Same joke again tonight about him thinking this was some town that he used to come to that never sang..... is this thee Birmingham Alabama ??? ohh the thriving Metropolis that it is...
  13. Brand New Day * For the first time ever, I decided to go to the bathroom during this song... I am shamed, although it sounded much better, with the toilet flush mix
  14. Roxanne
  15. Desert Rose * Not since the early days have I seen a crowd go so mental over this song... they all lose it, and there always seems to be some women trying to do an Arabic, twirly hands type dance to it... why is that ? and Sting forgot the words for about half the verse
  16. Bring on the night / When the world... * Quite nice the way they strt this song now, nice mellow intro with Dom doing some nice harmonics over the melody
  17. Lose faith *Great tonight, great great great...
  18. EBYT * I cannot get enough of this song....
  19. Message in a bottle * For someone who is into tantric, he sure likes to come a lot
  20. Fragile * Great version tonight, he is doing a kind of low B fret vibration widily widily type thingy at the end now also

And so it goes, and so it goes.... no more reviews from me until the 12th.
