Bill and Jeremy reporting from Las Vegas, reviewing night 3 (Saturday).
Same set as night 2, but not performed as well as Thursday and Friday. Sting's voice was showing signs of overuse, so don't get used to the 2 hour 15 minute set.
Sting spoke about last night's earthquake. He said he was on the 38th floor of a high rise in town and was in bed when it struck. He got up and decided that he better get out of the swaying high rise, but had trouble deciding what he was going to wear.
He spoke of last night's screw up on Seven Days and how he had to start the song 3 times. He said that he had the lyrics with him tonight, but if we caught him looking at them he gave us permission to boo.
A very pleasant surprise occurred during Englishman...Branford Marsalis came on stage, dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, and joined Sting and the band for that song, Brand New Day, and Tomorrow We'll See, playing the tenor sax. He left for Roxanne, but came back on stage for Bring on the Night/When the World and the three encore songs....If I Ever Lose My Faith, Every Breath, and Lithium Sunset. He was absent for Fragile however. It was quite a wonderful treat to see Branford and Sting together again, and both were really enjoying each other. Unfortunately, Branford and Chris (the trumpeter) didn't mesh real well, and it was obvious that Chris felt left out of the parts he normally played, as Branford took many of those parts. It certainly wasn't powerful sax playing, but what a pleasure.
Jeremy was the last one out of the venue tonight, as he helped a damsel in distress who had lost her earring. Jeremy found it, searched the casino for the woman who had lost it, found her at the blackjack table where she had just doubled down for a $5000 win, and she happily turned her winnings over to our young hero.
All in all, night 2 was the best show, both for sound and for performance. Night 1 had the pleasant surprises on the set list, and night 3 had a lot of spirit and fun.
Hope to see many of you in LA next week. Until then, thanks for coming, thanks for listening, God bless, and we'll see you again.
