State Theater - Detroit, Michigan, United States

by Terrence Sheehan on December 2, 1999

Sting was outstanding at the State Theatre in Detroit tonight, His music was an eclectic mix of of old favorites along with almost all the new songs from the album. He brought the house down with Roxanne, When the World and Fragile. The most list worthty news is that I got to shake Stings hand before he exited stage left along with my brother. I was not able to get a recorder into the State Theatre mainly because of my own ignorance, and that is a shame. In hindsight however I'm almost postive this show is alot like every other show because of it's sequenced nature, excluding the final songs message acoustic and fragile. I did however take a 27 exposures of 800 speed film which I will develop tomorrow and report it's quality to the list. If they turn out i will provide prints to anyone who would like them. I must also say it was outstanding to meet Michelle, her husband and friend at the concert. It was definately worth the ticket price to see Sting in this intimate atmosphere. Anyone who has not seen Sting yet is in for a real treat, he is at his best!!!

Unreal to shake Sting's hand before the millenium, I will have to set some high goals.

You have all read Terrence's review of the concert last night, and I only wanted to add that it was fabulous! So much energy, the band sounded great, Sting was in excellent voice, and the whole band seemed to be in a great mood. I was so impressed with Jason's piano playing and Chris' trumpet. They are such excellent musicians - Sting has picked a great band that plays and sounds well together. And this sounds corny, but I thought the lights were well done! The whole show was fantastic and one I won't forget for a long time! Worth the price and worth the wait. And I wasn't as close as Terry, I was 29 rows back on the floor in the center - and there was absolutely no way to get to the stage since the aisles leading to the stage were one person wide and completely packed. But still excellent seats. Close enough to see Sting's face!
