Brighton Conference Event Centre - Brighton, England

by Graham Holdaway on December 4, 1996

Hey guys, I went to the Sting concert last night. I won't tell you if it was good or not because it was a Sting concert, and hey it's bound to be good, no? Brighton Center (where Sting played) is not as big as thought at all. I recon it only seats about 3000 people. Though I was kind of hoping it would be small because I had the very last ticket and I though it might be a seat right at the back. I ended up sitting fairly close in the end. I was most impressed!

Well this Paul Carrack bloke is pretty damn good I recon. Though the crowd were a bit shy to begin with. Not clapping or singing much. I think this was because of the size of the gig. When I went to the one in Paris there must have been about 20,000 people. When you have that many people, everyone is singing.

Once Sting came on everyone was in for a damn good time. Well of course they were! Here's the set, I expect it's the same as most of the other gigs:

  1. The Hounds Of Winter
  2. I Was Brought To My Senses
  3. Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot
  4. If You Love Somebody Set Them Free
  5. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
  6. Seven Days
  7. Mad About You
  8. You Still Touch Me
  9. Fields Of Gold (and what a great version it was too!)
  10. I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying
  11. Synchronicity II
  12. Roxanne
  13. Bring On The Night / When The World Is Running Down...
  14. Demolition Man
  15. Englishman In New York
  16. If I Ever Lose My Faith In You
  17. Every Breath You Take
  18. Lithium Sunset (just like the one played on TFI Friday)
  19. Fragile

Sting wasn't feeling to well as he had a bit of a cold. He had all of his medicine out in front of him. When He asked for 2 women, and 1 bloke to come up and sing ISHICSC, he ended up with 3 blokes and 2 women. Quite funny really! The sing was oh, not great, but they clearly enjoyed themselves.

I think it was YSTM, where they all came up to the front of the stage, though I can't remember. Having to mush of a good time, that's why. I don't know if it was the same as any of the other concerts but Kenny sat on his little chair at the front with a crappy little keyboard (referring to YSTM). Sting was taking the piss out of the keyboard, remarking that it was only #3.50, and that he was ripped off. Roxanne however did seem a little to slow for that sort of song, but overall, wow what a concert.
