Sowow...wow. I'm home again and it could just have been all a dream...In many respects it seemed like it was all a dream...I caught myself looking at Christa a couple of times, so different now then she was when we first had dinner at the chinese resteraunt in Arcata, when we sat in my living room smoking and drinking coffee, when we walked along the beach admiring the ocean and the pebbls it left for us on the shore...And it all seemed aa bizillion miles away. Even with her there, in front of me, it was blaringly obvious that the past is always so irretrievable, so fleeting, that it goes beyond the people, the images. There is so much tied up my last semester at Humboldt State University and looking at Christa and reminiscing on this weekend, I can see that so clearly. Niether of us are the people we were back then...Safe to say we're *better* people, more matured, mroe experienced--more wordly knowledgable even...but this all implies major changes. These thoughts didn't permeate our time together--they were fleeting at best. I just though it pertinent to mention now that I've had time to let everything sort of settle a trifle bit. I'd forgot to bring my travel journal, so I didn't write any entires down in Florida--it's just as well--I never did have much time to write anything at all once I found Christa. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep over the past four days... I left Thursday night, around 2230, amidst rain and lightning.
It was a beautiful display of electricity really, and I tried to take a
couple pictures...we'll see. I had Dan's radar detector so I made
really good time--despite stopping at mostly every rest stop along the
way--to get out of the car, clear my head, etc.
What is even worse is that I saw the maid in the room and just left to wander about the hotel for a bit--Christa came back up to get something she'd forgotten. We missed each other by a matter of minutes...maybe even seconds. I wish I had been smart enough to leave a note when I first got to the room...*sigh* What happens does... So while Christa was out at Nasa, I spent the day being a tourist. I looked over the various Disney Hotels, the disney boardwalks--there is a House of Blues at Disneyworld, of all places (I took pictures) and came back to lounge around the hotel pool for a bit...get a bit of a tan started. I went to check into the hostel where my credit card was declined *gulp*. Luckily I'd pulled $200 out in cash for the trip, and still had, after the gas money I'd set aside and other expenses, about $135. I had to pay for the first night since I had gotten a reservation and that was the policy (SOP)---first night prepaid. Christa, it turned out later that night when we finally ran into each other, had two beds in her room, so she offered me one for Saturday night...good thing since it meant I had a little extra money to ensure I could *eat*. Eating is important. Friday night this little old lady named Christine Lavin was giving a small little invite only concert for the conference. Christa had interviewed her for her station, KHSU, about a month back and was *dying* to get into the show...her boss at the radio station (Terry) who was also at the conference, got the green light for her after they both had been trying all week. This lady was simply *hilarious*. I nabbed the show
on minidisc but I had to leave the mics in my shirt due to super small
nature of the show (about 25 people)...and that was good cuz Christine
did a song where she went around the crowd and stared right at me with
a miners light on...rustling sound at times throughout the course of the
short show.
So then, about 2330 or so I got back to hostell, just destroyed from lack of sleep, took a shower, and crashed hard until 0930. The plan was to meet christa at her 1030 coffee break, which I did. She was sitting with Terry and so the three of us all chatted for a bit-mostly about the conference. Christa and I then planned out the rest of the day. I went to stroll the nearby disney boardwalk/marketplace. Picked up some jewel cases from the Virgin Megastore there--for christa's SP disc set I'd made. We met up later for a conference speaker and luncheon---oh my lord the food was so good, and the desert....oh boy oh boy. The speakers were actually pretty good too... ...And this will have to be continued later. Even
after a five hour nap today, I'm still exhausted...so peace out for now
mis amgos.
