0230 -- Fireguard Today is Day one of Land Nav. Tomorrow is the actual graded exercise. I'm a little nervous, but even still, I feel reasonably confident that I will survive... Monday was our long awaited day off (MLK day). We got released Sunday evening. I got home, showered, went out to get beer, ordered pizza, and booted up EQ. I could have followed up on some tentative plans w/ my platoon mates, but I really just wanted time to myself... Woke up Monday @ 110 & set about runing some errands for class -- getting my BDU's starched, haircut, picking up misc. odds and ends. I ate lunch at China Wok (hhhhmmmmmm good)...As expected the day passed too quickly. I called home and talked w/ Dad for a bit -- Mom wasn't home at the time unfortuntly though. One thign to note -- the food here at PLDC is just plain terrible. I've taken to eating short order for lunch and dinner everyday -- because at least then I know what to expect, and that at least something will be edible. I feel so awful for ppl not on meal cards that hafta pay for this slag. Got some serious snorers on my floor. Lord I can hear one of them evern here, halfway up the stairs to the second floor. Luckily they haven't affected my sleep too much as of yet. I had an odd thought yesterday in class -- that even then,
as I sat there in class, men & women were at whatever phase of Basic
Training - getting smoked or cleaning the baraks or on FTX or doing whatnot.
Two years agao, at this time, I'd just graduated BCT and had just gotten
to Ft. Jackson for AIT -- what a lifetime ago that seems. It all
passes so quickly, too quickly. B4 not too ong, I'll be done with
this man's Army and back out on the streets a civilian...
2030 (Singles Soundtrack) Land Nav practice was like a vacation from PLDC...no classroom
time, no PT...
No detail & no fireguard tonight. Good thing because I feel so tired. Tomorrow it's Land Nav for real. If I make 4/4 again I get a Superior bullet for Land Nav on my 1059 -- my first NCOER...since I got screwed on my PU at the PT test & can't make commadant's list, I'm lookign for all those such bullets I can...with my luck I'll do well on out last exam Saturday and get one for Academics too... Once I pass Land Nav on the morrow I'll secure abotu a 12 hours pass for Sunday... I feel graduation so close to my reach - there is nothing
to stop me now really - just need to sit through the rest of this 20 man
per room/floor & no true personal time life -- 14 days & I wake
up an NCO.
