1/1 had a memorial service for SFC Nate R. Chapman today. He left Charlie Company about a year ago and a lot of people here knew him...

There are times like this afternoon when the feeling of patriotism and pride in service is almost overwhelming. I had chills throughout the 21 gun salute, taps, and ballad of the green beret tribute. Personally I didn't know SCF Chapman, he'd left 1/1 before I'd gotten here...but it matters little. He was an american, putting his life on the line of freedom, and he gave his life so that others need not. It makes me proud to wear the uniform, prouder still to be serving with the SF community. I'm not Special Forces, but at least I can say I've served with SF. Were I not so set on being as a civilian again soon, I would go to SFAS (Special Forces Assessment and Selection) and try to earn that SF tab myself.
