It's been almost four years. Ever since getting back from Maui I've been working on these pages...starting, stalling, stopping. The whole project just seemed so insanely massive! There was just TOO many years of spirituality and cosmic juice and pictures and stubs and everything. Everytime I started work on this beast I just got overwhelmed and couldn't continue. And then with every new tour it just continued to add up, until 2000 when I had SO many shows I just about gave up ALL Hope! Well...finally, in a huge burst of inspired energy, emotion java, and lack of sleep (see emotional java), I have completed my project. Without further ado, I give to you all May Love, Life, and the

Comments biffah 2002-01-31 16:01 i adore, adore, ADORE pearl jam. i've only seen them once (lack of money and they don't come through arkansas), and that was november 22, 1994. little rock, arkansas. wonderful, brilliant show. urge overkill was the opening act. got to hear a lot of favorites......some new ones for the time. black, state of love and trust, yellow ledbetter.....a "rough draft" of a song called i got id (which later turns out to be one of my favorite songs by them). eddie was very, very chatty that night i remember. (i was in the mosh pit, about 2nd "row") very nice. took a flower from me, and sang state of love and trust for me. after the concert, the lights came on and everyone pilled out of the venue, except for the few of us left in the mosh pit, because we had to wait on everyone else to get out first. with all the lights on, and about 30 of us left, eddie and company came out and did an acoustic version of "indifference". but a LOT angrier than on the album, and any live version i've ever heard. i dunno why it was so angry, but it put a lot more meaning into the song. and this tour was in support of "vs." by the way. i was going to go see them in memphis last year, but i couldn't make it, and i didn't know if i wanted to spoil the pj experience i've already had. i know now that they are playing bigger and bigger places, and i really liked the intimacy of a smaller venue. i do want to see them again someday, no doubt, but i really cherish the memories of my first and only show. !
(Oh, and btw, I'm sure it was just a typo but it was 1993 not 1994) I understand how you feel about small venues...there is so much more meaning and power derived from an intimate setting where the band is just feet away from everyone in the audience. :) Re: !
i'll try to think as many more details........oh, they opened with 'release'. i remember that. and they had their basketball figurines on the speakers. and eddie was wearing a brown button down shirt that he through out into the audience. Re: !
but why belabor a point. Re: !
You'll have to forgive me but I remain seriously skepticle that the show you talk about occurred. If you've got a ticket stub or handbill or anything to corrobate I would love to see it. And I don't mean to offend your sensibilities by doubting what you say. If I do so I apologize. Re: !
BUT, i did mix my information, so i can see how you are confused. (sorry, been heavily medicated because of the gout lately). NO, urge overkill was not with them on the club date. yes, it was a year later. and no, they did not have a permanant drummer at that point. i didn't even recognize him. he could have been some guy they just pulled out of the audience for all i care. and YES, they did play a very rough cut version of "i got id", which, as he introduced, was "i got memories," but said that he would probably change the title later. i understand that most people think that no one would come to arkansas to play, and that it is highly doubtful, but at the club i saw them at, many bands come through here and play unannounced dates (that's why it's always packed...you never know who will show up). i have seen smashing pumpkins, no doubt, tool, a perfect circle, tori amos, pearl jam, green day, mudhoney, alice in chains, and soundgarden there throughout the years. and that was all by chance of just showing up on the right night. none of this is ever announced, and it's low key, b/c basically artist come here to warm up for a tour, or just to have fun playing to a small crowd. and they know when they come to arkansas they are not going to get a lot of publicity, because the local club scene in little rock is so low key, the kids just don't give a damn who comes through. and no one is ever star struck enough to make a big deal about it, and announce it to everyone, and give set lists and dates and times out to random people. and that's why these artists come through. they know no one will talk or give away what they are working on and/or what they are trying out for future tours and/or albums. sorry if it doesn't make any sense, but it is just so. ( i guess that's what they call southern hospitality). but yes, i did see them a year before at the arena, in '93, so i'm sorry i got some information confused between the two. 'i got id' was at the 94 show, no opening act, but they did end both shows with 'indifference.' the '94 show was really quick, probably only about 5-6 songs. they sang, and they were gone, as they have done before (i've heard). and no, nothing was sang off of 'vitalogy'. and i know you are a huge pearl jam fan, as i am, but please don't go around acting like you know everything about them, and where they played and when, because you obviously don't. i'm sorry if i sound rude, but i was offened by the comments that you made. i can understand why you can be confused, because i wrote it confusing, but don't be so quick to judge. i have many pearl jam fans in many different states that know a lot about pearl jam concerts that have taken place that the general public, and magazines, and web pages, do not. and, again, i have no ticket stub or "handbill" because it was an unannounced club date. around here, that is commonplace, so maybe that's why you don't understand. i'm sorry, once again, if i sound hasty, but i have had this arguement many times before with many different people that have only seen pearl jam at arenas, and have never had the chance to see them in clubs and/or talk with them after shows and stuff. i could also sit here and talk about how one of my girlfriends hooked up with one of the band members that night, but i'm not. they are nice guys that sometimes like to stay low-key, and we as fans should respect that. and don't call someone a liar if you don't have proof against them, or if you were not there. it's not good manners. Re: !
Second, I am not one who has only seen the band at arenas, and I
have had the fortune of meeting Stone at least. Fuck though you don't know
me as a PJ fan...I have ALWAYS been of the opinion that they deserve their
own private lives. If your friend "hooked" up with one of the guys...honestly
I'd rather you keep that information to yourself. Even if you deciphered
every page of my "shrine" you still probably wouldn't really understand
me as a fan...There's a lot there that I left out (for the sake of my own
sanity). Please don't think that just because I know so much about them
that I infringe upon their right to their own lives, or that I build myself
up to be some fucking PJ guru or high falutent be all know all. Shit I
have had my share of encounters with a person like that and have always
walked away with a sour taste in my mouth. Damn but I know there's shit
load about them I don't know...and I really don't care.
The reason I was skeptical was because the show you were referring to did not fit my normal understanding of their surprise shows. Normally it's right before a tour or big gig when they have new songs that they want to play in front of a small audience before taking it "on the road". Normally that is...if they didn't play any vitalogy tunes it obviously wasn't one of those kind of dates. And yeah, you confused the shit out of me by talking about both the 93 and this 94 show at the same time (and especially since you said you only saw the band play once). The way it came across I couldn't help but think you got something mixed up somewhere...and I apologize but I'm a blunt person...If I think something's funny I won't tap dance around it. I knew you might be offended by my doubting you so that's why I already apologized ahead of time. so your last post cleared things up a bit. Did the club show you're talking about happen? Well hell I'm in no position to say no now...the only reason I doubted was because of inconsistencies already noted. Your last post cleared up the inconsistencies. Hell if there is anything I know for sure about the band, it's that they are full of surprises. now...that all said...could you tell me the name of the club? If I'm ever in AK I'll make a point to stop by...who knows who'll be there. :) Re: !
