The Stone Temple Pilots are a band that was formed in San Diego
in 1988. Weiland hooked up with Robert Deleo at a Black Flag show
in California
And then picked up Eric Kretz Who was playing in a club in California
and then after finally convincing Dean Deleo to come to California from
New Jersey. They were officially known as Mighty Joe Young. They recieved
their first gig in 1990 at the Whiskey in L.A.

They hired agent Don Muller and he told atlantic about Mighty Joe Young.
April 1st 1992 they signed with Atlantic. Unfortunately
during recording Mighty Joe Young was told that a elderly blues singer
had already taken the name Mighty Joe Young. Weiland remembered that
as a kid he used to put the old STP oil logo on his banana seat bike.
He suggested that they use the initials STP in their
name. From there Dean came up with "Stereo Temple Pirates".
It wasn't really supposed to mean anything, he just thought it
sounded cool. Dean called up his brother Robert and told him what
they came up with. Robert didn't like using "pirates", so he
suggested using "pilots" instead. The band agreed and decided
that "Stereo Temple Pilots" would be their new name. They called
up their manager, Steve Stewart, and told him their new name,
but Steve didn't think that "stereo" fit in very well and
suggested "stone". "Stone Temple Pilots" were born.

Finally The band finished their album CORE in September 1992
and it went platinum. it was followed by a second release PURPLE
two years later which also was a big hit.

And TINY MUSIC... SONGS FROM THE VATICAN GIFT SHOP came out
March 26th 1996.

Two years later 3/4 of STP (Dean, Robert, and Eric) split with Scott because they were sick of his drug problems. So they got a new singer named Dave Coutts and formed a band called Talk Show. the album came out on September 2nd 1997. Their album didn't do to good in the record stores and the band didn't last to long either cause roumor is that Dave got kicked out of the band there is no official word on that.

Scott Weiland came out with his solo flight 12 Bar Blues a half a year later on March 30th 1998. His album did pretty good in the record stores (better than Talk Show!) Scott recently went on tour but it was stopped abruptly due to Scotts everlasting drug problem. On June 1st at 3pm in New York Scott was caught with possesion of herion, there is now word on what will happen to him yet.
