THE BIOGRAPHY

Formed in 1996, Suffer for Sound fuses modern rock with traditional folk music to create a sound that is as unique as the individuals within the band.

"Critics who complain that our songs are one-dimensional, just don't get it," explains J.D. Sundstrom, one of the founding members of the band. "The songs are a direct reflection of the individuals that comprise the band. If anyone feels that the music lacks a certain depth to it....well, that says alot about Suffer for Sound."

J.D., the band's principle lyricist, and Steve Sundstrom comprise the core of Suffer for Sound.

Steve explains why he and J.D. have remained at the center of the group this way, "We have tried to get other people to join the band in the past and it usually hasn't worked out. Most of the people just aren't right. For example, both J.D. and I are looking for individuals who have nothing to say and are willing to stand in the background...maybe play an instrument and smile alot."

"I guess we are people who will not let the high ideals of others drag us down," adds J.D. "For example, many people feel that spending a month in Uraguay to study the effect of Jerry Springer reruns on the tribal plainsmen of the high mountain region would be a complete waste of time. Steve and I looked at it as an opportunity to see ethnicity in its purest form infested like a rampant virus."

Although J.D. and Steve claim to be brothers, stories regarding their formative years tend to differ dramatically.

J.D. remembers it this way....

"Even though I am six years Steve's senior, we were inseparable growing up. I like to use Steve's head as a coaster for beverages or sometimes I would get a funky rhythm racing through my system that necessitated using Steve's cranium as a makeshift drumset. It was a very happy childhood for both of us."

Steve's memories tend to differ slightly....

"J.D. would come and go, often leaving for six months at a time. One time I asked my parents why he went away so much and mom started to cry. Through her tears she said something about Orville Redenbacher and indentured servitude. Later on, just before J.D. left again, he gave me a twenty dollar bill to spend at the record store...I didn't see him again for six years. When J.D. came back he said he announced that he was "home for good". Things have been pretty good since then, it is a real rarity for J.D. to freak out and break things the way he used to. He doesn't eat popcorn anymore though and that kinda worries me."

Whatever their story, you can be sure of one thing: Suffer for Sound means business. Business of the most serious nature. Business that can only be done in a tiny room with magazines and indoor plumbing. Business that is guaranteed to produce results. Results that you can count on 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
