- THE MASTERPLAN (Creation)
- There are two schools of thought concerning the B-sides of singles. One involves sending the master tapes of the A-side to a second-rate boffin for a crappy ten-minute remix; the other route necessitates the band writing a brand new song and recording it. To their credit, Oasis have always opted for the latter, and now, in the hiatus between 1997's "Be Here Now" and their next LP, fans can get their teeth into the back of 14 of the Gallagher's old platters. Generally more gritty and earthy than any of the band's recent single releases, these songs are fuelled by the hunger that drove Oasis before the trappings of success had its way with them. And the power and melody of "Acquiesce", "Going Nowhere" and "Rockin' Chair" in particular prove that B-side material needn't be cack.
