- "Noel On Fantasy World Cup Live"
- Noel Gallagher joined in the national inquest immediately after England's World Cup defeat by Romania with an appearance on "Fantasy World Cup Live" on ITV on June 22.
- After joining Lightning Seeds singer Ian Broudie on Frank Skinner and David Baddiel's famous sofa, Noel was asked how he felt after watching the game.
- He sighed: "Glenn Hoddle...I don't know what game he was watching, but after the game he said England were good enough to win it. But they weren't even in it until Michael Owen came on! I think they just about deserved to get a draw."
- Skinner loyally protested that England would "still be all right, because we only need a draw against Colombia", but Noel was pessimistic, anticipating England's likely Second Round fixture with the words: "We'll be all right until we kick off against Argentina."
- Asked if he thought England would be "nasty" against Argentina, Noel replied: "I hope so," before adding: "It's the last time we do a charity record for the Romanians as well."
- Meanwhile, Oasis have confirmed plans to release a compilation album of B-sides in late autumn this year. Tracks on the as-yet-untitled album will include "Stay Young", "Acquiesce", "Talk Tonight", "Half The World Away" and "Fade Away", all of which were voted for by Oasis fans visiting the band's official Internet website in a poll to choose tracks for the compilation.
- Noel first revealed plans for the album early this year, when playing a solo set at a pub in Santa Monica, California during Oasis' world tour. He told the audience at the show on January 28: "There's gonna be a compilation album because we've just got a massive tax bill. We need the f*****g money."
