OASIS Faq
SELECT
January 1999
- "The Acid House"
- as part of a review of 'The Acid House' film soundtrack on EMI, written by Irvine Welsh and directed by Paul McGuigan [unrelated to Guigsy]
- It's surely an honour having Oasis write a song specially for the film...
- IW: "Yeah, Oasis wrote that for the film, then the record company heard it and decided it was so good that they had to put it out as a B-side on 'Stand By Me'. But, by their standards, hardly anybody bought that single anyway, so the song still sounds fresh on the soundtrack. It's always nice to have Noel write a song for you."
- [despite the song having been written in 1993 or earlier! - Andrew]
- "Presenting 'The Mistressplan'"
- not an advertisement
- alongside a mock-up of sleeve art for a band called 'meg' using the Oasis logo format and typeface; with a Meg look-alike standing at a business scrwal board in front of a desk at which business executive types sit
- Socialite, rock wife, business woman, liberator of beautiful beasts of the field. And now another glorious event in the remarkable life of Meg Mathews; her first solo album!
- Entitled "The Mistressplan", it shows why the shadow she casts on modern culture is so long and enigmatic. Featuring
excellent artwork, lyrics, thoughts and impressions, there are also exclusive photographs taken from a TV of a video showing Meg hanging out at a barbeque with celebrity friends. Even more exciting, Select is overjoyed to present exclusive extracts from the extraordinary sleevenotes written by her friend Anna Frieal:
- "Meg was modelling a new look- a Mexican bandit outfit in white patent leather - and being photographed by a tumbling gagale of paparazzi. She smiled enigmatically at the idiot throng, like the Mona Lisa in a ten-gallon hat, before indicating to her chauffeur Al-Fayed to summon the brown roller, and dismissing her Brazilian aromatherapist Julio.
- "As we pulled away majestically, like a pair of happy wanderers high in the Sierra Madre, she looked out of the window at an old man rummaging in a bin, thinking. Then she turned to me, rolled her clear blue eyes to the heavens and smiled mysteriously, like the Sphinx who's just completed The Mirror crossword, and said: 'All we can say is...top bubbly, Anna, do you reckon we should save the rainforests? Or should I go to New York to buy a Prada snood?'"
- Meg believes this is her finest work to date, better even than the big party she organised for 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', where junglist supremo Goldie and husband Noel Gallagher from oasis attended of their own free will. It includes:
- Going Nowhere If It Ain't The Met Bar
- The Fleeting Cameo In A Mate's Film Song
- Expensive Chair (Sit Thee Down)
- Stay Solvent
- I Am the Owner Of A Selfridge's Gold Card
- Walletshrinker
- Talk Tonight (About Shoes)
- (Its Good To Get) Cowboy Hats And Versace Catsuits For Free
