ABORYM :
KALI-YUGA BIZARRE

This, in a nutshell, is Black-Metal, but it's Black-Metal with many outside influences brought into the mix. This has been out in Europe for awhile, in fact, the band are already planning on a new studio effort for an early 2003 release, but we are just getting a North American release of Kali-Yuga Bizarre now. At the helm of this band is vocalist Attila Csihar (Tormentor, Mayhem, Plasma Pool), who turns in an impressive, creepy vocal performance. I'll warn you now, purists are going to have some trouble with this disc. The band breaks from Black-Metal tradition, and not only incorporates keyboards, but also makes use of Industrial style noise, and rhythms. If you refuse to listen to Cradle Of Filth, then you probably won't like this either, not that they sound the same, but they are both taking Black-Metal out of the ghetto, and exposing it to the rest of the metal world. That aside, if you don't cry like a girl at the mixing of musical genres, and have a fondness for the darker things in metal, then I am going to fully recommend this disc. Attila and the boys keep is very interesting from start to finish. Blasting speed makes way for more laid-back eerie passages, that pull the listener into a world were light will not follow. The Industrial leanings add a nice change of pace and tempos compared to the usual Black-Metal style. I've played this at least 10 times, and each time, I find something else to like. A superior piece of work, that many will pass up do to their musical prejudice, sad. With the right marketing, Dani Filth had better watch his back, or he might lose his throne as the King of the genre.
RATING = 8 Black-Metal (Released 2002)
