AENIMA :
THE SENTIENT

And now for something special, all the way from Portugal, we have the new CD from Aenima, "The Sentient". This is their second release, the first being 1998's "Revolutions". The two long time band members are Carmen (vocals), and Rune (strings, guitars, samples), who came from now defunct projects "Poetry Of Shadows" and "Isiphilon". The newer members of this gothic, ethereal, dark-wave combo, are: Nor (guitar), Paulo (bass/keys), and Hugo (drums). The beauty, and the underlying darkness, of the songs on this CD sneaks up on you. You might not fully "get it" on the first spin, but by the third, it hits you full in the face. Carmen's vocals seem to float on a cloud, and seem to combine a sense of total peace, and urgency at the same time?! Don't ask me to explain it, you'll have to hear it for yourself. This is the type of CD, that you should listen to while sipping a bottle (or two) of red wine, alone, or with your lover. The bottom line, is that there is more emotion packed in the first 30 seconds of this CD, than in every Enya CD put together! So, if you have some dark brooding to do, or would like more info, go to the Aenima web page.
RATING = 8 Ethereal-Goth (Released 2002)
