AGGRESSION A.D. :
FORGOTTEN SKELETON

It seems posthumous releases are all the rage these days, and when you think about it, why the hell not? It's so much easier in this crazy age of computers to get a disc out on an indie label (or to just DIY), than it was 15 or 20 years ago. So now many defunct bands from yesteryear, that have unheard recordings rotting in the closet, are unearthing them for our listening pleasure, and to put to rest long unfinished business. Aggression (or Aggression A.D. as we now refer to them for legal reasons), were an underground Speed-Metal band from Quebec Canada. They lasted only a short time (from '85 – '88) but for a few years were local heroes. "Forgotten Skeleton" was to be their debut album, but a bunch of legal crap put a stop to it in '87, and the only real album that the band managed to produce was "The Full Treatment", released on Banzai Records in '89. Which came out after the band had already called it a day. The sound on Forgotten Skeleton is basic, simplistic, unrelenting Thrash & Speed-Metal. Today's Nu-Metal kids might find it a little too primitive for their liking, but for us old fogies, it has an undeniable old-school charm. It's funny that these guys are from Quebec, because as I was listening to the disc, it reminded me of many local Toronto acts from the same period. Some of you may remember the Thrash band Sacrifice (who Aggression played with at least once), and the proto Death-Metal act Slaughter (who can forget a song like "F*ck Of Death"?) that were both from Toronto, well to me Aggression sounds like a mix of the two. Maybe 80% Sacrifice, and 20% Slaughter, but way faster than both. Plus, the vocals from "Botcher" sound a lot like a harsher version of (here’s where I get ultra obscure on your ass) the vocals from Toronto crossover heroes "Sudden Impact" (who released the long lost classic "Split Personality" in '88). As a side note, I think the vocalist for Sudden Impact was Johnny Borodenko, who later went on to be a promoter and talent buyer for CPI, Universal Concerts, and Tidal Wave Entertainment, but I digress... This was a great period in Metal, Thrash and Death were just starting to come into their own, and bands like Aggression were leading the way. We should all give thanks to Great White North Records for resurrecting this long lost piece of Canadian Thrash history. Some of you may wonder, what ever happened to the members of the band? Well, I can't tell you about the others, but the guitarist, "Sasquatch" is now in the killer Thrash band Cradle To Grave. So the flame lives on.
RATING = 7 Thrash-Metal (Released 2004)
