AGONY CREEPS :
AGONY CREEPS

The HamptonRoads, VA band known as Agony Creeps has only been around since 2001, but has already managed to create an impressive metallic sound. The band is; Marc Alwine - vocals / guitar, Jason Cofield - drums, and Bryan Ottaway - bass. This 5-track disc is their first release to the world. The look of the disc itself, makes you think it's gonna be some sort of Misfits inspired outing, and the band photos make you think they're gonna be hardcore Thrashers, but both assumptions are wrong. The band's sound is actually hard to pin down. What I can say, is that the tunes mostly flow at a mid-tempo pace, and utilized the power of chugging guitar riffs, and a deep low-end grove. At times, mid era Metallica comes to mind, along with the mid-paced stuff from Pantera and Life Of Agony, and then some modern nuances similar to Finger Eleven or Sevendust appear as well. The vocals are fairly clean, and only seldom get into a harsher range. With the right PR, and maybe an image change, these guys could be huge. The songs are simply pumped full of soul, and are cool enough for the underground, yet they're also accessible enough, that if they started to get some recognition, most rock radio stations wouldn't have a problem adding them to their regular rotation. Each tune has a slightly different feel and vibe, which could either be their best asset, or a giant hindrance, as they try to settle on a solid direction. Either way, this sucker is worth tracking down. For all the info you need, check 'em out at agonycreeps.com.
