AIRGED L'AMH :
THE SILVER ARM

Man, if there's one thing that drives me absolutely nucking futs in the world of Heavy Metal, it's the widespread use of awkward, unreadable, and/or almost unpronounceable band names. (I know with my strange web-site name, that kind of comes off as being pretty hypocritical, but TS.) Case in point, what the hell is an "Airged L'amh", and how do you say it? Well, apparently it's Gaelic, and means "The Silver Arm", but I still can't pronounce it. Maybe they should have kept their old name "Ragarok", at least I can say that. Usually this is more of an issue with Black and Death-Metal bands, but this time around it's a Power-Metal band from Greece. Well, ok, the band (& label) don't refer to themselves as a Power-Metal band, they prefer the term "Epic Folk-Metal". Well, call it what you want, but this sounds like mid-tier Power-Metal circa 1986. This is all ok, but that's it. Ok songs, ok sound, and ok playing with a few scattered hooks. It you looked up the word "mediocrity" in the Rock n' Roll dictionary, right beside pictures of Audioslave, Creed, and Velvet Revolver would be one of Airged L'amh. I guess if you can't get enough Power-Metal filled with songs about castles and ancient battles then you could do a lot worse than adding this to your collection, but it hardly qualifies as an essential purchase. For More info, check the band out at airgedlamh.com.
RATING = 5 Power-Metal (Released 2004)
