ALL TOMORROW'S PARTY :
YOO DOO RIGHT, YOO DOO SLIDE

I should have known right away from the odd band name, that this was a Japanese outfit. (Even if they did rip it off from a Velvet Underground song) They always have some strange monikers. I mean just take a look at "Thee Michelle Gun Elephant", I mean, what the hell does that mean? The album title is also another band reference, this time to the German band Can. But as I have no knowledge of what or who they were (except for what any putz can google on the web) I can't really say if the reference hits home or not. Anyway, this is an odd little band. They seem to have a bit of a split personality, one that I get along with, and one that kind of annoys me. The "personality" that I'm infatuated with is that of a rockin' noisy garage band, evident on tunes such as "Fever", "Light Of Love", and "Love Can Bring You Down". In my opinion, it's in this realm that these guys truly excel. The songs are stripped down, raw, and catchy. It comes off as a cross between Teenage Fanclub, the Stooges, and Sonic Youth. The other personality that I simply can't warm up to is that of a Beatles-esque trippy hippy psychedelic type band, most evident on songs like "In Shade Of Blue", and "Sure Love". You see, the problem is that I dislike, no that's not it, I hate, no that's not right either, I fuckin' loathe and absolutely abhor the Beatles, and anything like them. I know, that's blasphemy in the world of rock, but I've never let being blasphemous stop me from doing anything in the past, so why should I let it now? I know I've just offended half the planet, but I do not care. I have just no use for the "fab four", or any of their albums. Well, there is one use I forgot about for a Beatles album. It can be rolled into a teeny, tiny little ball, and shoved up the ass of any overly pretentious music critic from Spin or Rolling Stone magazine! Ok, I'm off on a tangent here. What I meant to say is that I basically love half the disc, and just can't connect with the other half. So for me, "Yoo Doo Right, Yoo Doo Slide" is a mixed bag at best.
