THE ALMIGHTY :
THE ALMIGHTY

The UK's Almighty are back! If you don't know these guys, they had some fame in the early 90's with CDs such as "Blood, Fire & Love", "Powertrippin" and others. They then broke up for about 4 years... but know they have returned in splendid form. Its hard to describe these guys, they take Hard Rock, early Grunge, 90's Metal, and a bit of Punk, and mix it all together for a unique sound all their own. Maybe if you crossed "Circus Of Power" with the "Cult"... but that still would not be right. At any rate, this disk is killer. If you are an old fan, you will be pleased that this has a sound close to "Powertrippin", but it still sounds new and fresh. The lead track, "Broken Machine", is a crowd pleaser (if they just put that song on the CD 10 times in a row, the CD would get a 10 rating!). I think back in the day, they, unfairly, got lumped in with the current Glam bands of the time, but they are NOT Glam. And as usual, the Japanese CD has a bonus track so get hunting (I won't even tell you what I paid for that... painful).
RATING = 8.5 Metal (Released 2000)

THE ALMIGHTY :
PSYCHO-NARCO

If you are not thoroughly hooked after listening to the first 30 seconds of track one (Galvanize) on this CD, then you suck. I would have to assume that rock, or "hard music" is probably not your thing, and that you would be better off as one of the millions of mindless drones that are only capable of liking the crap that MTV tells them to. ….go buy a "Jessica Simpson", or an "Alicia Keys" CD (or whatever the pop flavour of the month is). After taking a few years off, The Almighty decided to get back together, and released a killer come back CD, last year's opus, simply titled "The Almighty". I thought they were going to have a lot of trouble putting out a follow up disc that would rise to the same standards, but here it is, only one year later, and the band has delivered in spades. Psycho-Narco expertly takes the best elements from metal and punk, and then mashes them together into a near perfect hard rock listening experience. Its great to see a band with so much integrity these days, no trends are followed, no posing, no addidass, no rap, no "(insert silly adjective here) - core", just four experienced guys, beltin' out quality rock, with a genuine who-gives-a-fuck attitude. Other than the brilliant lead of track mentioned earlier, some sand outs include; "427 Freak Horsepower", "Soul On A Roll", and "Waiting For Earthquakes". If you haven't got the hint yet, this is a n essential purchase ….but, you guessed it, UK import only.
RATING = 9 Hard Rock / Metal (Released 2001)
