AMORAL :
WOUND CREATION

This Death-Metal quintet hails from the musically fertile land of Helsinki, Finland. "Wound Creation" is their debut disc, and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Oops, "fun" doesn't sound too cool now does it... I mean it's "totally sick" ...how's that? Although the band is fairly young, and as a unit they've only been serious about their craft since 2000, this recording shows a great love for the old-school, and a lot of promise going forward. This is my kind of Death-Metal, mid-paced, guttural, chunky, and really freakin' meaty. You know what I'm talking about, there is a great bottom end groove, an underlying backbone of Rock n' Roll structuring, and it's just perfect for bangin' the old noggin to. There is also an added bonus of some unexpected, but most welcome, overlaying harmonies that add that extra dimension to many of these songs. I find that a lot of today's ultra-fast, ultra-technical Death-Metal bands just don't have that low-down evil vibe to 'em, and are just too caught up in trying to out shred the band that came before them. I guess I'm showing my age, but to me, playing as fast as you possible can for 40 minutes with no breaks does not make for a good Death-Metal platter, as Homer Simpson would say "borrrrrr-ing". Thankfully Amoral keep it far from boring. Many parts of Wound Creation make me think of Entombed and their "Death n' Roll" sound that they've become famous for, others make me thing of early Death and even Obituary. Anyway, this is a solid debut, and worthy of your time and $. I think their next one however, might be the breakthrough disc. For more info on these Fins, check 'em out at amoral.cjb.net.
