IAN ASTBURY :
SPIRIT/LIGHT/SPEED

This is the new solo CD from Cult front man Ian Astbury. I am a big Cult fan and was really looking forward to this, but I found it a bit disappointing. There are some good tracks here, like "High Time Amplifier", but as a whole, I found it kind of blah. Most of the songs are very mid tempo, and just don't seem to go anywhere. I don't need the rock sound and speed of "Electric", but these don't even get to "Love" speed. There is a kool version of "The Witch" (which is a Cult song, so I don't know what the deal with that is, maybe Ian could not wright enough material for a whole CD?) that is worth having, and Ian's killer voice is clear and prominent throughout. So, if you need to have all the Cult CDs, go get it, if not, take a listen first. Not much more to say, its like "Cult-Lite", half the taste, half the caffeine.
RATING = 6.5 Alt-Rock (Released 2000)
Well, after repeated listens (at least six) I am dropping this rating to a 5, and I stand by my disappointed groan.
