BETTIE FORD :
LEAGUE OF FOOLS

Germany... I don't follow a lot of German Punk bands, but it seems that might be a big oversight on my part. You see I have just been introduced to a band that has left me wondering what the hell else I've missed by not paying attention to this scene. The band is known as "Bettie Ford" (signed to "Punk 'n Drunk Records", which might be the best label name in the history of music). The boys make it no secret where their inspiration came from, forming in 1998, they were energized by the exploding Scandinavian Punk scene. Bands like Turbonegro, Gluecifer, and the Backyard Babies fueled their passion for dirty, in-your-face, no-bullshit rock! The band's bio claims that at the time of forming, no one knew how to play an instrument! If this is true, then either these guys are some fast freakin' learners, or the guitar is easier to play than I thought! Anyway, the band sports a sound very close to their mentors. It's basic and simple. It's edgy, but not too edgy, and polished, but not too polished. You know what I mean. The songs themselves are very catchy, and immediately pleasing. On some songs, such as "The Day I Missed The Bus To Memphis", I hear strong Gluecifer overtones. Then, oddly enough, I hear a strong resemblance to the Michael Graves era of the Misfits. No, Bettie Ford doesn't sing about zombies and bad 50s horror movies like the "Newfits", but there is a similar sound in the delivery. It's all about fun here, drinking, partying, and getting into trouble, the subject matter of true rock 'n roll. So, if that whole Scandi Punk scene is a favorite or yours, or if you dig the so-called "Glam-Punk" scenes of either yesteryear or today, then Bettie Ford should me on your radar.
