BEYOND THE FLESH :
WHAT THE MIND PERCEIVES

Wow, I thought it was just a rumor, an unsubstantiated urban legend, but it's true! Carcass, the gods of grinding Death-Metal, never broke up, for some reason they just relocated to New Jersey and changed their name to Beyond The Flesh! All kidding aside (but hell, they even kind of look like Carcass in their band photos), this CD (the band's first full-length) is fucking vicious. It's an incredible blend of Carcass, Kreator, old-school American Death-Metal and modern European Melodic Death. The vocals range from a Jeff Walker grind to an occasional more typical Death growl. The whole disc just sounds remarkable, the guitars are sharp as hell, and the bottom end is full and pounding. The fact that this is an independent release makes it all the more shocking. The sound and musicianship is on par with the best the global Metal scene has to offer. Each song has a distinct personality and identity. There is nothing repetitive, and the listener never gets a chance to even think about getting bored. Who could imagine that simple melodies could stand so perfectly beside blistering riffs, and unrelenting blasts of aggression. The band has managed to make one of those ultra rare records that will truly impress and excite both old-ass Head-Bangers that were raised on 80s Thrash, and Death, and the young Metal-Heads that grew up with Black-Metal, and the current Melodic Death-Metal scenes. The masters behind the music are; Justin Leary - vocals / guitar, Rick Flanegan - lead guitar, Matt DeTuro - bass (now out of the band), and Senen Solis - drums. There's no point in going on and on. This CD smokes. You need it, and god damn it, these guys should be signed! Relapse Records, were looking in your direction. For more info on this fantastic band, check out beyondtheflesh.net.
