BIG IRON :
FALLING DOWN

Some of you out there might remember this Texas band from their 1997 debut CD, "Tierra del Diablo", for others, this will be your first exposure. Big Iron is; Dan Lehmann (vocals), Alapeno (guitar), Dave Slaughter (drums), and Todd Hezeaux (bass). The band has their shit down solid! This CD is slicker than a greased otter. The band's metallic sound falls somewhere in the same area as Disturbed's. It's heavy, yet not overly edgy, so there are many Hard Rock radio stations out there that might actually have the balls to play this! That is if... they can manage to break. The vocals are clean, yet have a commanding presence. This is clearly manufactured with video rotation and radio airplay in mind, hell, "The Truth" is almost a power balled! Well, OK, it's pretty heavy for a power balled, but you know what I mean. I almost wanted to nock their score down a point or two for such mainstream pandering. However, the songs are just too damn good for me to do that. "Falling Down" is full of great hooks, solid playing, and stellar production. If Disturbed can sell 6 ga-jillion records, then there is no reason Big Iron can't as well. This should have been all over the radio by now, and I don't know why it isn't. Maybe that vein of "Nu-ish" Melodic Thrash-Metal has run it's course, who knows? The band is currently working on new stuff, so it'll be interesting to see what route they take now. Do they continue with their quest for the big time, or do they say, "screw it", and plunge into the depths of the underground? Either way, I'm sure it'll be a quality slice of Metal. RATING = 7.5 Nu-ish Thrashy Metal (Released 2000)
