BLACK CRUCIFIXION :
THE FALLEN ONE OF FLAMES

Finland's Black Crucifixion are now nothing more than a footnote in the blood-stained annals of Black-Metal, but Paragon Records is gonna try and make sure you remember who the hell they were by re-releasing their 1992 demo (for what I believe is the second or third time). Anyway, these dudes apparently lived so far freakin' north that they were actually in the artic circle! Obviously, one can gather from the original date this stuff was recorded that it's pure, unfiltered, old-school "true" Black-Metal, complete with ultra-limited production values, in the vein of Hellhammer. This isn't the most amazing stuff from that era, but because the recordings are now almost 14 years old, it does give them a sort of instant credibility that one just couldn't achieve if trying to record the same today. Speed-wise, it's really not that fast, in fact there is an abundance of mid-paced groove to be found in it's short running time. While the vocals (supplied by Fornicator) have a sullen, whispered quality to them. This should appeal to fans of early Celtic Frost and more importantly, Beherit. Why Beherit you ask, well because Black Crucifixion actually featured two members of said band, Sodomatic Slaughter (drums) and Wennstrom (bass), plus another from the Beherit fold, Holocausto Vengeance, co-produced the recording, and also wrote both the intro & outro on the tape, as well as some lyrics. So, in the end, it's an interesting relic from a time now shrouded in myth and legend, but not an essential touchstone of said era.
RATING = 6.5 Black-Metal (Released 2005)
