BLACKSHINE :
SOULESS AND PROUD

With the band being described as Swedish "Goth N Roll", I was expecting a clone of Finland's 69 Eyes. Man was I way off. Blackshine are more in the vein of early Hellacopters, later day Entombed, The Babylon Whores, and even The Mobile Mob Freakshow. There are lots of raspy, rough vocals courtesy of Anders Strokirk, and crunchy guitars from Anders, and his partner in rock, Joakim Stabel. The band has the sound, the image, and the balls, but the songs just don't have the hooks to bring them to the forefront of the scene. If ya dig the above-mentioned bands, you'll definitely find something to like here, but Blackshine isn't going to be you new favourite band. Standouts worth noting include "Sacrifice" and "Another Twist". You can find 'em on the web at www.blackshine.nu
RATING = 7 Heavy Goth Metal (Released 2001)
