BLOODSHOT :
DEMONS, ADDICTIONS & CONFIDENCE

Ah Las Vegas, the land of gambling, alcohol, high-priced whores, ruined lives, and a Metal force known as "Bloodshot". What we have here is the band's first release, it has promise, and some songs that given a chance, could crush your head in like a sack of crap, but unfortunately, it gets bogged down in the mix. I really hate when this happens, decent, maybe even some great songs, getting beaten down by a less than stellar production. Let me first say that "Demons, Addictions & Confidence" has some cool shit going on. The band draws from influences such as "classic" and Thrash-Metal, and maybe even a little Hardcore to form it's sound. For the most part, the songs are delivered at a nice heavy, mid-paced chug, that I always find extremely effective. There are even some songs that could have achieved fist-pounding, Metal Anthem status, such as the ball-crusher "Brothers In Blood". However, the overall sound on this sell-released disc is... well, why beat around the bush, it's bad. The vocals are buried in the mix, almost to the point of absurdity, and the guitars sound like they were recorded on a $10 boom-box. Drummer Rob Hussey did all the recording and production of this disc, with some help from the rest of band, all who'll now probably be planning to kick my ass if I ever meet them. Oh well, I didn't plan on going back to sin city for a while anyway. If they could manage to get this stuff re-recorded with someone like Bob Rock (Metallica, Cult, Motley Crue, etc.), then this CD could be a serious slab of Metal, and would easily crank the rating to 7.5 or beyond, but as it is, I gotta go with a six. That's basically a 7.5 for the music, and a 4.5 for the production averaged out. The band however are currently working on their new CD, so hopefully, they will have someone else behind the mixing board, or they have learned from their past mistakes. Anyway, I bet this shit is pulverizing in a live setting. For more info, you can check the guys out at bloodshotfans.com.
