BLOWSIGHT :
ONLY TIME WILL TELL

Blowsight is the new band featuring former Drain S.T.H. guitarist turned bassist, Flavia Canel. First a word about her former band, Drain S.T.H. fuckin' rocked! Both '97's "Horror Wrestling" and '99's "Freaks Of Nature" were great discs. I was lucky enough to catch this band live once, opening for Fear Factory in Toronto, and they were awesome. It came as quite a shock to me when in 2000 they were left without a home, as their label closed down and became a part of Island/Defjam, and then almost immediately, they broke up. I guess some people just thought they were too gorgeous to be taken seriously, and they couldn't shake the stigma of being a "chick band". But let me tell you, they were the real deal. If they weren't, then why do most of the former members still play in bands today? As most of you know, singer Maria Sjoholm married Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi. Bassist Anna Kjellberg, and drummer/vocalist Martina Axen both went on to form "Superfix", while Axen also played in "The Ark". Anyway, on to the demo. Blowsight also features in its ranks Niklas Fagerstrom on vocals and guitar, Fabien Perreau on drums, and Serban Carapancea on guitar. The sound here is pretty polished, with the band coming across as a blend of modern emotional, Melodic-Rock influences. Imagine mixing together the Foo Fighters and Nickelback, and then throwing in hints of post Seattle Grunge, and a handful of Linkin Park-esque Nu-Metal-isms for good measure. All four songs on this demo could easily be rock radio hits if pushed properly, however the showstopper, "Needle" is the one that could break them out the easiest. The only problem I see for the band, is that there are hundreds of bands currently strip-mining this musical territory, and it's only a matter of time before it's mined out, and the genre sell implodes. Blowsight has to strike now, or their gonna miss the bus. I think the title of this little demo is more appropriate than they realize. Personally, I preferred Drain S.T.H., but Blowsight has a greater potential to "make it". For more info, the band's web page is at blowsight.com.
