BOWLSCRAPER :
RED HAIR REVOLUTION

Amusing band name, best one since "Bongzilla"... Anyway, we have a new kick-ass group coming out of the good old US of A. These guys are freakin' tight! The name of the game here is modern Thrash-Metal. There is not a trace of Nu-Crap to be found, no rapping, no DJs, no bullshit. The roots of the band's sound can basically be traced (either directly or indirectly) to almost any (or all) of the great Thrash bands that sprang forth in the 80s. You could almost pick any one you want, but I tend to hear elements of bands such as Sacred Reich, Vio-lence, mid-era Sepultura, and early Testament. Now, while 80s Thrash may comprise their root sound, Bowlscraper's biggest influence has to be "Cowboys From Hell" era Pantera, you know, back when Pantera still had some groove in them. Other touch points would be the first Machine Head disc (before they caught the "Nu" fever) and maybe even Down and C.O.C. The songs are heavy, with mountains of double bass, and vocals that are harsh and edgy, but not of the Death-Metal-ish variety. Like the before mentioned Pantera disc, "Red Hair Revolution" has some serious head banging qualities, but with songs like "All The Same", can also serve as a great party disc as well. Your appreciation of this platter will be immediate, no time is needed for it to "grow on you", or for it to "sink in". But it'll sink in all right, it'll sink in like a "Big Fucking Hammer" to the skull, that's how it'll sink in! To top it off, the production on this debut full-length effort is just fantastic, and when you consider it's an independent effort, it makes it seem all that more impressive. A great piece of sonic mayhem for your daily afternoon "420" break. For all the info you could want, check out bowlscraper.com.
