BRAINDANCE :
REDEMPTION

I was not sure what to expect when I first saw the cover to the latest Braindance release, "Redemption". The cover is a very "metal" looking, comic book style affair, leading one to think, maybe Power Metal lurks on the inside. Then, after reading the press sheet, I see they describe themselves as "Progressive Darkwave", which leads me to think this might be a more avant-garde, ambient sort of goth project. Both guesses were far from the mark, what we have here is a unique blend of; Queensryche, Type-O-Negative, Paradise Lost, dance beats, and more strange samples than a Rob Zombie CD! I know it sounds like a bizarre mix, but it works. The two responsible are Sebastian Elliott and Vora Vor, both look like some sort of gothic super heroes, or something from Danzig's adult-themed "Verotic" comics. Looks aside, this futuristic, danceable, goth metal is effective… dark, yet upbeat, and best yet, they sound like no other band I can think of. Plus any band that starts their CD with a sample from the Simpsons has to rule, right? For more info on this strange entity, go to their web page at www.progressivedarkwave.com
RATING = 7.5 Progressive Darkwave (Released 2001)
