BRAND NEW SIN :
BRAND NEW SIN

After listening to Brand New Sin, you would be quite confident in thinking that they hailed from the mist-filled swamps of New Orleans, but you'd be so wrong, these boys call Syracuse New York home. Brand New Sin, who started out as "Godbelow", are a well-polished professional band. Solid, catchy songs, range from southern boogie influenced mid-paced ditties, to full-blown, C.O.C.-inspired, Stoner Metal-esque, Pantera-edged rockers. Vocalist, Joe Altier, at times sounds almost exactly like Phil from Pantera, and considering the vocal power of Pantera's leader, Joe should take that as a compliment. The rest of the band is super tight, and shows a maturity usually only found in bands that have been around for 20 or so years. The rest of these scary looking, tattooed freaks are; Slider - Guitar/Vocals, Chuck Kahl - Bass, Kris Wiechmann - Guitar, Ken Dunham - Guitar, and Mike Rafferty - Drums. These songs are instant pleasers, there's no need to warn up to them, or let them grow on you… one spin, and Brand New Sin will own your bitch ass! The one thing that makes BNS different from the other bands I compared them to earlier, is that somehow, the songs seem more accessible. Now don't read that the wrong way, I'm not sayin' they're week, or watered down, I'm just sayin' that they could get some of the air play, that goes to bands like Godsmack etc. But, what becomes popular in America, what gets radio and MTV play, are bands with big financial backing, both for promotion, and for paying all those behind the scenes kick-backs. C'mon now, you didn't think all that shit you hear on the radio is played cause its good did you? Anyway, the band is about to tour with the newly reformed Prong, and then Motorhead, now either of those would make a kick-ass show. For more info, check out their web page.
RATING = 8.5 Southern-Stoner-Metal (Released 2002)
