BROTHERS OF CONQUEST :
ALL THE COLORS OF DARKNESS

The self proclaimed "Rock and Roll Outlaw" is one of the most misunderstood musicians in rock today. During the 90s the Outlaw played drums for Nine Pound Hammer, was a founding member of Nashville Pussy, and fronted the now legendary Hookers. The Hookers were one of those bands that should have been much bigger than they ever were. I'll predict now, that in 4 years or so, they'll have achieved official cult status, and you'll find shit-loads of kids that will now profess to have been into them for years, even though they haven't heard a single song. The Hookers had a handful of releases on various labels such as "Black Visions Of Crimson Wisdom", and "Satan's Highway" on Scooch Pooch, and "Equinox For Tomorrow" on Devil Doll. The Hookers were a Metal band trapped in a Punk world. When they started out, the sound was more punk, and they found themselves on predominantly Punk labels, with predominantly Punk fans. Soon, the music started turning more Metal, the Punk fans still "got it", but the Metal community really never heard them, unless your Punk friend came up to you and said "Dude! You gotta hear this!" So, inevitably, the Hookers became no more. While figuring out his next move, the Rock and Roll Outlaw release an EP under his own name, which came and went without notice. Now however, he is back with a full band of warriors at his side. Brothers of Conquest picks up where the gritty, dirty, raunchy Hookers left off, and add a little more direction and focus. The end result is one of the best Metal records in the last year. Influences range from the early days of the NWOBHM, to early Danzig. Hell, track 4, "Curse Of The Witch" could have easily been an unrecorded Danzig track. The Outlaw's vocals are still harsh and gravel-filled, and the guitars are searing. Try to imagine Iron Maiden writing tunes for Danzig, and having Danzig perform them after killing his vocal cords from drinking bourbon whiskey and acid shooters. You might not think that would be a winning combination, but believe me, it is. These are songs that will truly make you wanna bang your head in old-school approval. If songs like the second track, "Holy Transformation" don't make you lift the classic two-fingered "devil sign" in the air, then you can't call yourself a Metal fan, plane and simple. There is just one problem, not with the music, but for the band. They are on Go Kart Records, which, as you guessed it is really a Punk label, so once again, the Outlaw's vision may never really reach its intended audience. Do yourself a favor, no matter if you're a Punk kid, or a Metal head, pick this up. Rock like this should not be ignored by anyone. And while you're at it pick up the Hookers back catalogue as well, you won't be disappointed, unless you're a wuss, and you're not a wuss, are you? For more info, you can find 'em on line here.
