BUTTERFLY MESSIAH :
PRIESTESS

Butterfly Messiah has been around since the summer of '98, when Shannon Garson, and Robert Nightshade, joined forces to create this dynamic Electro-Goth outfit. The songs on their latest (and first full length) disc, "Priestess", trade off between hard driving Synth-Goth, and Darkwave. The vocals are also traded off, as Robert sings on one track, with computer, modulated precision, and then Shannon will take over for the next song, with her dark angelic voice. The element that links all the songs together however, is the deep, hypnotic beats. The lead off track, "Land Beneath The Waves", will make all you sexy goth babes, that enjoy writhing on the dance floor, get up and move your stuff. Then, track two, "The Wicked', will bring you back down, into a more subdued state of darkness. Then the roller coaster ride continues, as "Introspections" will bring you back to your feet. It goes on and on like this, so by the end of this disc you should be quite exhausted, but in a good way. The first pressing of this disc is limited to 1000 copies, so you better move you ass if you plan on getting one. You can start by heading over to butterflymessiah.com.
RATING = 8 Electro-Goth (Released 2002)

BUTTERFLY MESSIAH :
ETERNAL

Well, Florida's Butterfly Messiah is back with their second full-length effort, and Goth babes everywhere are rejoicing. Not too much has changed from 2002's "Priestess", but there are some differences. The vocal duties are now almost the sole possession of Shannon, with Robert only doing lead vocals on one track, "With Roses". The rest of the time, his vocal duties have been reduced to the "backing" category. With all do respect to Robert, this is a good move for the band, as Shannon's haunting, angelic vocals are enough to give the Devil himself a hard-on. ...Oh, I'm sorry was that too crude for your delicate sensibilities? Well, all I can say about that is T.S. ...And not that it should matter, but she also has the physical looks to back up that intoxicating voice. She possesses a dark, almost Barbara Steele type aura, which is enough to bring any black-clad Goth boy, and maybe some Goth girls, to their knees. The music is still a mix of very danceable, synth-driven Goth. The band combines a million tiny sub genres into one; Synth-Pop, Dance, Goth, Dark Wave, Neo-Classical, Medieval, Trip Hop, Electro, EBM, and Ambient, it's all here in one form or another. Listeners will find it very hard to sit still while this one is spinning, as it seems tailor made for the velvet lined Neo-Goth dance clubs that are springing up world wide. I guess the two best words to describe Eternal are elegant, and sophisticated. Simply, a great release. Fans of bands like "Faith & the Muse", "Delerium", "Attrition", "Cruxshadows", "Trance to the Sun", and even good old "Depeche Mode" should find much to their liking here.
RATING = 8.5 Electro-Goth (Released 2003)
