CAPUTO, KEITH :
DIED LAUGHING

We finally have the solo CD from Life of Agony front man Keith Caputo. After LOA he first formed "Absolute Bloom", then they fell apart, and he formed "Brandy Duval" (named after his dead mother, and the name of a song on the CD), now he just calls himself "Keith Caputo". Fans of LOA will want to know if this sounds anything like his previous work... well it doesn't. This is much more mellow. Think of the slower songs from LOA's "Soul Searching Sun" and you're getting close. Still, despite its lack of hard-core edge, it does pick up the pace here and there, and it's still a good CD. Keith's voice is rich and full, and you can feel every emotion he's feeling drip out of your speakers (this boy has issues). If you were a fan of Life Of Agony just for their Hard Core leanings, this will just piss you off, but if like me, you really dug Keith's voice and lyrics, then hunt this down. (this is still only out in Europe and Japan, so have fun)
RATING = 8.5 Mellow Alt-Rock (Released 2000)

CAPUTO, KEITH :
DIED LAUGHING - PURE

Here we have a strange release. Keith Caputo put out a CD called "Died Laughing", which was excellent, yet very mellow, so now they give us the acoustic version??!! That's like giving us the heavy version of a Napalm Death CD. Now don't get me wrong, its still a good CD, its just unnecessary. There are 5 acoustic tracks from the first CD, plus some covers ("Why" by Annie Lennox) and B-side tracks. It seems Keith's management is going to get every drop of cash they can get out of us. I would have rather Keith put his time towards the next full CD of new material. Well, if they want to cash in, may I suggest "Died Laughing - Hard", a CD full of heavy versions of Keith's songs! That I will gladly pay for.
RATING = 7.5 Extra Mellow Alt-Rock (Released 2000)

CAPUTO, KEITH :
PERFECT LITTLE MONSTERS

Let me just start by saying that I have been a huge Keith Caputo fan ever since Life Of Agony's debut CD, "The River Runs Red", was released all those years a go. After LOA ended I followed Keith's various projects. I have, and love, the "Absolute Bloom" demo. I also eagerly bought up all his solo efforts, "Died Laughing", "Died Laughing Pure", as well as all the singles that were released along with these albums. So when I heard there was a new solo effort, I whipped out my credit card faster than a pervert at a porno convention. A few days later it arrived in the mail, I quickly slapped it in the CD player, and was greeted by the biggest pile of shit I've heard in a long time! To start off, it's very mellow. That in itself is no big deal, I mean "Died Laughing" was mellow, but it still had Keith's trademark vocals, and the music was powered by Keith's emotionally packed lyrics. This thing, does not sound like the Keith we know, the vocals, I swear, sound like Elmer Fudd on donkey tranquilizers! The music is basically a drum machine (or a horrid drummer) with some monotonous, guitar twanging to fill in the background. The tempo stays almost exactly the same, with no variation, throughout the first seven tracks (I would call them songs, but that's a bit of a stretch). Each song is more annoying than the last, and the verse of track four, "Rock Star" is so repetitive and annoying, that I thought for sure my CD player was skipping. There is an eighth track, "Been Zamped" which is nothing more than random noise and people screaming for 2 or more minutes, just great. When it was all over, I couldn't believe how bad this sucked. So, I went to the wife, who is also a big fan of Keith's, and said, "hey check this out, new Keith Caputo!" "Cool" she said. So then I started to play it for her. Well, she looked at me with the strangest look, a look of pure horror and disgust, a look that clearly said, you've got to be kidding me. Too bad I wasn't. I don't know what happened here, I hope it's just a nasty fluke, and not a harbinger of what's to come. These little monsters are very far from perfect. I still call myself a fan, but this blows.
