CATHETER :
DIMENSION 303

What a great band name... This Denver based trio has their new CD out on the Polish label, "Selfmadegods Records", so I'll give you one guess as to the act's chosen genre. If you said "Power-Metal" then you haven't got a fuckin' clue. The name of the game here is Grindcore, and Catheter plays a pretty intense style of this already insane Metal sub-genre. As I was listening to "Dimension 303", which by the way is the band's second full-length, I noticed that they seemed to have an underlying sound that was very familiar to me. At first I couldn't quite place it, it was kind of Thrashy, yet almost Punkish in nature as well, then it hit me, later day Slayer (post "Seasons In The Abyss"). Catheter's sound is akin to taking that already intense, unrelenting aggression found on albums like "Diabolus In Musica" and "God Hates Us All" and morphing, or converting it over to Grindcore. That might not make a whole lotta sense when reading it, but when you hear this disc you'll see exactly what I mean. Man, these guys just don't give you a second to catch your breath, it's all very claustrophobic, and merciless. Not for the faint of heart, recommended for seasoned Grind veterans only. Oh, and if ya end up digging this a lot, not only can you go back and hunt down their debut disc entitled "Preamble To Oblivion", but there are also about 800 or so split 7"s you can go crazy chasing after as well, good luck!
RATING = 8 Grindcore (Released 2005)
