WORLD DECLENSION

Centinex, Sweden's eternal Death-Metal underdogs just refuse to go away (which is a good thing) and are back yet again with another pulverising platter of Death, that'll probably go unnoticed once again on the global scale... They've been around forever (since 1990) and their sound lands somewhere in between old-school Swedish Death-Metal, and the slightly newer "melodic" Death camp. Even with only one original member left (bassist Martin Schulman) the band still puts out quality product, and "World Declension" is no exception. I've always liked these guys, but for some reason, I've never loved them. I'm not sure why, but they always seemed to come in second place to bands like Entombed, Dismember, and (early) In Flames. Now, with album number eight, they still don't manage to topple the reigning kings, but they're coming closer to that goal. Well, ok, they beat the hell outta In Flames these days, that's a given. I'm talking about Entombed etc. So, what can you expect on their latest offering, well for one thing it's more Death and less Thrash than last year's "Decadence - Prophesies Of Cosmic Chaos", and it's just plain heavier. Speed wise, it's pretty much full-throttle about 95% of the time, only slowing to a mid-pace chug a couple of times. On the production side of things, everything sounds nice and clear, but it seems a little overly Pro-Tooled to my ears. I like my Death-Metal to have that older, meatier production sound, but that's just me. Once again they have delivered a good disc (almost great) that will appease their fans, yet fail to break them to a wider audience. So underdogs they will remain...
