COHERENT LIQUID FORM :
NEW EXISTENCE

The band was birthed in November 1997, to date we have had one demo tape, a mini CD, and now, their debut full-length CD. The band lists many artists as influences, such as; In Flames, Destruction, Iron Maiden, Suffocation, Testament, Gorguts, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Venom, At The Gates, Slayer, and Morbid Angel. Out of that extensive list, the one that really sticks out after listening to the CD is Opeth (look out, I'm going to mention Opeth about 800 times during this review). CLF mix a potent blend of Death/Black-Metal with a more progressive, or melodic side, which is something Opeth are famous for. In fact, it's almost like CLF are a Black-Metal version of Opeth. Now, when I say Black-Metal, I'm really referring to the vocal delivery, these guys don't wear corpse paint or anything. Now in reality, CLF and Opeth don't sound the same, it's just the style, and the structure of the songs that are similar. Along with the crushing Death & Black-Metal attacks on this disc, you'll also notice bits and pieces of early Thrash riffery, and short eruptions of Grind-Core. I guess you could say that pretty much every form of extreme Metal is touched upon at some point or another throughout this punishing hour of music. If you want to blame, or praise anyone, the demonic foursome behind this disc's 11 tracks are; Corey Jones (Necromis, Demonicon) on drums, Chris Bartsch (Evisceration) on bass, Fred Pacholke on guitar and Matt Anderson on guitar and vocals. In the end, some may be turned off by the varying Metal genres being mixed so closely, but if you are one of the many who craves bands like Opeth, that make it their trademark, then chances are that you'll dig this. It is however, one of those pesky CDs that requires a few spins before you truly begin to see its beauty. So, if after the first spin, you are left sitting on the fence, don't put it to the bottom of the pile, just hit repeat... trust me. For more info, you can find the band on line here.
RATING = 7.5 Melodic Death/Black-Metal (Released 2002)
