DEADCHOVSKY :
DECADENCE REVOLUTION

"Decadence Revolution" is the first release from these French retro Goth-Rockers. The music harkens back to the days of old, namely the 80s. Deadchovsky reminds me of a myriad of older bands that tend to continuously show up on those cheap Cleopatra Goth compilations that pollute all our CD racks. You know, bands like; The Wake, Eva O Halo Experience, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Midnight Configuration, Christian Death, Big Electric Cat, etc. I'm not saying they're a clone of any of those bands, but they use the same basic 80s-styled framework. What makes Deadchovshy different from all those old-timers is mostly the vocal delivery from bassist "Afterglauk" (the band is rounded out by; Lois John Slut - guitar, Albator - drums, and Le Bab - keys). This dude sounds like he is criminally-f*cking insane! Most of those older bands had soothing, or at least mellowish vocalists, Afterglauk tares into these songs like some minor demon is constantly poking him in the ass with a pitchfork. Now, this has a good side, and a bad side. On the good side, it gives the band's sound a bit of uniqueness, that is always hard to come by in the Goth-Rock underground, plus many people will be drawn to the quirky vocalizations right off the bat. On the bad side, there are many that will run from Afterglauk's vocal atrocities after the first few notes. I wasn't too fond of them myself at first. However, I found that like Black-Metal screecher Dani Filth's gremlin-esque cackles, Afterglauk's vocal anomalies tend to grow on you after repeated exposure. So, what I guess I'm trying to say, is make sure you give this disturbing, nightmarish, eerie platter a few spins before you pass judgment. It's a cool disc, one that should appeal to creatures of the night from 14 to 40. For more info, the band can be found on line at deadchovsky.com.
